" Y/N, Y/L/N who will be attending Florida A & M University. Y/N plans to major in nursing. She will be graduating top 3 of the class of 2001" the man spoke as you walked across the stage receiving your diploma
You've been waiting on this day since you first learned what a "graduation" was. You heard several " THATS MY BABY" in the background which only made you smile
After the rest of the names are called and everyone is back to their seat we are told to stand
" I must say I am proud of everyone in this building today. I'm going to miss seeing you all walking the halls and coming in my office disturbing my peace." We laugh
" You all may not know this but y'all are the most interesting class I've ever had. I remember when you all were freshman and now you're graduating. I'm very proud the the people you have become. This is always the hard part. But this is never goodbye.
At this point in time you may turn your tassel. Congratulations Oakridge High School Class of 2001" he says
Everyone begins cheering and throwing their caps into the air. You turn your head to see Amala looking at you.
"You did it!" She mouths and you smile
" No, we did it" You say back

" You got everything baby" your mom asked as she looked in the trunk of your car.
" Yea, I double checked" you say
" Okay baby, I'm gonna give you some time to chat before you leave. Don't be to long you know I don't want us to be late getting up there" she says and you nod
She's referring to Amala. Nicki had already left for two days ago, seeing that she is going to NYU. Nicki's originally from New York and she's always said that she wanted to go back for college. She has family up there so she should be good. But you on the other hand don't. You wanted to be farthest away from Texas as you could get, but not TOOO far now. So you settled on FAMU instead of Texas A&M.
" Everybody welcome Miss FLORIDA A&M UNIVERSITY" Amala cupped both her hands around her mouth yelling to a fake audience and you smiled
" You're so extra" you say to her and she smiles
" Only for you" she says wrapping her arms around you and you put yours around her neck.
You both stand there rocking from side to side staring at each other enjoying the presence of one another because you both know that this will be the last time your get to hold each other for a while. Driving 16 hours every other weekend is not going to cut it.
