C H A P T E R 28

"Pina-uwi ko si manong, sa akin ka sumakay," Zach's determined face welcomed me nang makababa ako sa building kaya wala na akong ibang nagawa kundi umupo sa back seat.

"Why are you sitting there? Do I look like I'm your driver?" he exclaimed. "You look like one," I replied in a chuckle and transferred to the front. Nang maka-pwesto na doon, hindi pa din niya pinapaandar ang kotse at tumitingin lang sa akin. "You look ugly, start the engine," I commanded and put my seatbelt on.

Natauhan naman siya at nagsimula nang magmaneho. "Are you fine now?" he asked out of the blue when we're on the road and I replied a nod. The car was on mute the whole ride but not until I saw McDonald's sign on the side of the road.

"Wait! We'll have a drive thru please." He ordered me a cup of sundae and large fries for two and I ate it happily on the way home. "May bibilihin lang ako sa grocery store," I excused myself when we reached the building's parking lot. "Samahan na kita," he offered and followed me entering the store.

While I was picking items and putting them in the cart, I excused myself once again. "Naiihi ako Zach, ikaw na muna mamili dyan ng kakailanganin sa condo," tumango siya at lumipat sa kabila at kinuha kong pagkakataon yon para dali-daling lumabas ng grocery store at pumasok sa Pharmacy katabi nito.

I snatched five pregnancy tests and paid them on the counter and had the chance to hide it on my purse. Bumalik ako sa grocery store at umaktong kakatapos lang umihi at nagpatuloy sa pag grocery.

Another night had passed and I couldn't sleep peacefully again. My mind is going crazy of those questions I can't wait to be answered.

Nagising akong parang hinahalungkat ang tiyan ko at dali-dali akong napabangon at pumasok sa banyo nang naramdaman kong nasusuka ako. Nandiri ako sa lahat ng nasuka ko sa sink at ang lalamunan ko ay sumasakit na parang pati mga laman ko ay gusto nang lumabas. Naghilamos ako at lumabas ng banyo.

Kung tama ang hinala kong buntis ako, mas mabuti pang ikumpirma 'to. I checked Zach in the kitchen and he's cooking something for breakfast kaya dali-dali kong kinuha ang purse ko sa ilalim ng kama na tinago ko kagabi in case makita niya. I locked myself in the bathroom and started testing my pee. I applied pee to all the five pregnancy tests I brought and waited few minutes before opening my eyes again.

My jaw dropped when I saw all five of them with two red lines. "Holy shi--" I was startled with a knock on the door. "Avani?" he uttered behind the doors. "I'm pooping, wait a bit!" I exclaimed.

"Tapusin mo na 'yan, the food is getting cold," inporma niya. "Susunod ako," I replied with eyes glued on the ten red lines in total. I took a photo of it and sent it to Nico at niligpit ang kalat ko. I didn't throw it on the trash can but wrapped it on the plastic again and put it back on my bag para walang may makita si Zach. Lumabas na ako ng kwarto at tinago ulit ang bag sa ilalim ng kama.

"What took you so long?" tanong niya nang makalabas ako ng kwarto at ako naman ay direktang tumungo sa ref upang magsalin ng tubig sa baso. "Nothing, my stomach hurts kaya I pooped," pagdadahilan ko.

"Kain ka na, baka gutom ka na. Here, eat a lot," he gave me my plate and looked at his laptop beside him. "Can you eat first? Work can wait," ani ko sa naiiritang boses at kinuha ang remote para patayin ang TV.

"I'm just checking a proposal, don't mind me. You're the one who needs to eat, you're looking pale," sambit niya na dahilan ng pagyuko ko ng onti ng aking ulo at nagpatuloy sa pag kain.

"Maaga ka atang nagising?" pag-uusisa ko. "I'm having another meeting," he nonchalantly replied. Meeting nanaman? "Ikaw, may trabaho ka today?" he asked back. Sumubo ulit ako ng kanin bago magsalita. "I'm not working today, I'll just stay here."
