Naria
"Naria? It's time. I've found an escape route."
Raeyeda's voice sounds in my thoughts. I'm suddenly alert, answer and touch Ronan, his back resting against the wall, one leg propped up, his arm wrapped around it. I put a finger to my lips, indicating him to keep quiet. Ronan nods and waits.
"You've found a way out? Where?" I ask.
"Up above your cell, there is a metal door that leads into the sewers. From there, you'll come into the back gardens. I'll be waiting for you there," the Silvaglen answers.
"All right. I know I've said this a lot lately, but have you seen Kirena?"
"Unfortunately, no. I've done as you asked. I saw no sign of her though. But I'll keep looking. Good luck."
"Hey! Wait a minute! What spell do I use to open the door? I don't think we can reach it by ourselves."
"Oh right, I forgot. The incantation is 'Openio'. Do you have it?"
"Openio. Yes, thanks."
And with that, Raeyeda's gone.
"Raeyeda's just informed me that she has found an escape route," I say, aloud.
"And this Raeyeda is your informer?" Ronan asks.
"She is," I say, simply.
"All right. Then where is this escape route and how are we going to get out?" he asks, getting to his feet.
I look up at the ceiling where I can barely see the metal door that Raeyeda's mentioned.
Ronan follows my gaze. "Up there? How are we going to get up there?"
"Don't worry. Leave it all to me. Just keep close and keep quiet."
I then explain the plan to him. Ronan wrinkles his nose instinctively when I mention that we're going through the sewers. I can't say that I blame him. But it probably isn't as bad as the Koldreds' smell. Now that I think of it, are there any more of those giant red-skinned monsters out there?
"When do we go?" Ronan asks, interrupting my reverie. I come back to the conversation.
"I think it's best if we go now. Raeyeda will be waiting for us. Just follow my lead, all right?"
He nods, though I can see he has thoughts that need to be spoken. But he lets them pass and I can only imagine what they are.
"All right. Lead on," he says, though his brow is furrowed in a thoughtful frown.
I then stand up, raising my hand, palm up towards the metal door in the ceiling.
"Openio," I mutter.
A soft bluish glow comes from my palm. With a creaking sound, the metal door drops open, almost landing at my feet with a bang if Ronan has not caught it hastily in his hands. I give him a grateful look that he returns with a nod.
"Come on, let's go," I say, reaching for the closest bar.
Ronan gently, but firmly pushes me aside. "Naria, maybe I should go first?"
"Um, all right," I say, embarrassed slightly by his chivalrous gesture.
Ronan grips the bars with both strong hands, pulls himself up and climbs up the bars until he disappears into the hole in the ceiling.
"Ugh!"
"What's wrong?" I call as softly as I can.
"Just a bit smelly. It's safe to come up," Ronan answers.
