5 a.m. and no sleep. Eddy was not stupid, he probably had the highest IQ in the company: he had noticed that there was something wrong, especially because Mr. Smith kept asking him about Brett. If it was for Brett's sake, he would have killed all the agency members, and just the possibility of him being in danger was enough for him to leave the company. It only took him one night to orchestrate his plan:
1. Find a new phone not tracked by the company, even an old one is fine (note to self: do it immediately with the second point)
2. Find a new flat as far as possible from the old one (note to self: search for a new building, as there are more possibilities to find one available, and offer to pay in advance to have it tomorrow)
3. Ask Brett to move your essentials there and to stay for the night
4. Calculate the time Brett will need to move your stuff there (note: prepare boxes, the less he stays at your house the better it is)
5. Infect a needle with sleeping draught
6. Infect a second needle with the antidot
7. Wrap a clean pen drive in plastic
8. Settle a torniquet under your clothes (note: put it in your boxers to pass security check)
9. Get a knife, a needle, disinfectant and a surgery wire in the car (note: remove the locator from the car after the surgery)
10. Swallow the pen drive a few minutes before the attack (note: do it in the restrooms, where there are no cameras)
11. Hide the needles in your throat a few minutes before the attack (note: do it in the restrooms because there are no cameras)
Possible endings:
a. The file doesn't exist: inject the second needle and act like your boss felt sick. Spend the night at the apartment and inform the agency of your moving
b. The file exists: escape in the mess of the moment. Remove the badge and go to your new flat. Activate wi-fi screen before checking the file not to be tracked.
Simple and effective. If everything went right, he would have still been an agent and Brett would have been safe. Not that he didn't hate that life, he surely did, but after so many years of service, seeing what for you had been a house and a family backstabbing you is not an easy pill to swallow. In his heart he hoped that Brett's file was there because James cared about him and wanted to check if Brett was alright, but he knew deep down there was something rotten under the foundations of the building.
The next day Eddy went to Mr. Smith's studio after lunch. Obliviously he hadn't slept well: too many questions running in his mind, whose answer was waiting for him in the most controlled place in of the structure.
Eddy: "Good morning"
Said Eddy peeping from the door
Mr. Smith: "Good morning, uuuu you look wrecked!"
Eddy: "Yeah I didn't sleep well..."
Mr. Smith: "Keep thinking of Brett?"
Eddy: "No...my new mission. It's for this reason that I'm here: I have to ask permission to the principal server"
Mr. Smith eyed him suspiciously, but if there's one thing Eddy knows well it's how to act, and the fact that Eddy behaved almost perfectly in the past years helped with his request.
Mr. Smith: "Sure...what are you searching for?"
Eddy: "Old files, nothing that will take me more than fifteen minutes I guess"
