The Final Attack

The pale moonlight gently caressed the trees and the concrete building hiding from the world behind them. All the agents stood quietly, waiting for that little red light that would have put an end to the tyranny they were once forced in. A few slim figures were visible on the roof from where they observed, dancing gracefully till they disappeared, swallowed by the dark.

Count. Breathe. Count. Breathe.

It was a matter of seconds before they would have shown the signal. Eddy gripped tighter on the sniper in his hands, trying to regulate his breathing in fear that even the trees were able to listen for it. He was doing it for him, he was doing it for Brett. After this day he could have returned to his love, alive possibly.

Count. Breathe. Count. Breathe.

Returning to Brett after one year living as a ghost, after one year of breaking his heart. Coming back from hell to finally be able to love him and tell him all the truth he deserved. With the tip of his fingers he caressed  the photo of Brett, hidden in the breast pocket of his action uniform, and closed his eyes

Count. Breathe. Count. Breathe.

Red.

It was time.

He moved quietly amongst the branches till he and his team were near the iron fence. Just a few coordinates with his fingers and his men took position to assault. Three, two, one, and the carbon ropes were thrown on the roof of the building before the men started climbing in the base.

Once his feet touched the concrete ground of the roof, he gave other quick instructions with his fingers before they entered the doors of hell, for the last time hopefully.

Nat: "000, 101 here, can you hear me?"

Croaked his headset

Eddy: "000 to report, loud and clear, over"

He whispered back

Nat: "I'm in the control room, are you in the left wing? Over"

Eddy: "Just entered, waiting for instructions, over"

Nat: "Move like instructed and make a clean swipe, report in 15 minutes, over and out"

Eddy: "Got it, over and out"

With a firm movement of his hand, he gestured his men to move and they started to tiptoe in the long corridor. Through his night visor he could see all the doors of the rooms where he had been training for years, the places where he had learned how to be an agent, the places that had taken him away from Brett just to train him to on day kill the love of his life.

He wanted to puke but he'd been trained to endure even venom, he could do it, for Brett.

The team moved fast in the dark, reaching for the computers of the various offices in which they plugged the devices that should have taken the proofs. At this hour the base was nearly empty, if not for the few guards that were easily sedated by the first platoon that had entered the building. Now was the time to take all the possible information and wait for the masters to come at the base after their little mess.

Nat: "To all the agents, can you receive me?"

Came the desperate voice of Nat from the little device in his ear

Eddy: "Loud and clear, over"

Nat: "We have company, they know we are here, emergency plan z, repeat, emergency plan z, report in 30 minutes out of the base, over and out"

Shit

All the men stared in his direction waiting for the signal to act. It was the last thing Eddy wanted but he couldn't deny Nat's orders.
