Belle Evans
After Finley and Niall had made up, Niall broke up with Melissa and she wasn't too happy about it. Not that any girl would actually be okay with him getting back together with his ex, but she could have been a little bit less feisty.
It was alright because we were starting our last year in highschool. I wasn't going to be double-timing anymore because I had finished junior year over the course of 3 and a half months online. We got our schedules and I had Tennis first, calculus, and then Malik Inc. every single day. I completed almost all of my courses except taking the state exams so that's all I had to do.
Zayn and I were outside on the Tennis courts during freshman orientation to show the freshmen what they have signed up for. Zayn was wearing black jeans, a grey boots, and a grey printed tee. To say the least, he looked stunning.
While I was over here wearing a white t shirt, black leggings, burgundy colored riding boots, and a light leather jacket. Honestly, leather jackets went with anything. Zayn loved showing me around the office. His employees valued practically everything he said.
Except whenever he would sometimes test the men there and say something like, "Wow Belle is beautiful."
To which one of his employees will most likely answer, "She sure is."
And Zayn would get insanely jealous and be really weird around them.
My first week of the intership was actually really fun. I pretty much just edited articles that Malik Inc. sent out and I assigned interviews to other interns, which was fun.
The problem was in the break room earlier, I heard two other interns talking about me.
"Did you hear about Belle Evans?"
"Yeah, she's a legend! First girl Zayn has taken anywhere," the girl acted like she admired me or something.
"Whatever, I think it's all PR. You know how Zayn was asked if he was gay last year at the GQ thing," the other girl shrugged.
"I think they're real and I totally ship them."
"Emily, honestly. What are you fifteen?"
"Actually, Susan, I'm seventeen."
I like the way Emily thinks. On the other hand, Susan sounded like a pain in the ass. However, their conversation made me wonder, 'do other people in the office think the same things?' I surely hope they don't think I got this internship due to 'dating' Zayn.
Those girls also thought it was a PR stunt, which was an interesting theory, it was just not the truth. I knew from the start that everyone was going to think it was just because I was Zayn's girlfriend, and that is exactly why I did not want this internship.
I didn't like having people think I got special treatment. Although I was more liked than some of the employees, it was just because of my personality, I'm sure.
Zayn took me out to dinner, like he normally does, and I tried not to let the thoughts get to me.
"How was your first week?" He asked after we ordered our food.
"It's been pretty good," I smiled at him. He turned away and my smile completely faltered. I really wanted to ask him, to tell him what Susan and Emily said about me. But I knew that would only add fuel to the fire that is burning so hot right now.
"Really? What is your favorite part about working?"
"Getting to see you do what you love." That was not a false statement. I really did love to see Zayn enjoying himself at work. He loves the control of Business and getting to boss people around all day is his absolute dream.
"That was sweet," he grabbed my hand and smiled at me.
I really wanted to ask him.
We ate our food and as usual, left no room for dessert. I wasn't sure why restaurants felt inclined to ask that. For example; even though that lovely couple just had a four-course-meal, they would love a decadent piece from the three layer chocolate cake you serve.
"What's on your mind?" Zayn asked while in the car.
"Oh, nothing." I tried to keep a straight face, but failed. I just looked away.
"Belle, you are a shit liar," he laughed.
Oh I'm glad he's taking this light-heartily.
"Please tell me what's on your mind," he begged.
"Okay, but keep your eyes on the road. I don't want to get into a car accident," I said sarcastically. "It's been bugging me all day, but earlier in the break room I heard two of the interns, Emily and Susan... Talking about how they think I'm just a ploy to make Malik Inc. (and you) look better. And they think I only got the internship because I'm your girlfriend. Plus, they think you're gay."
He didn't laugh.
"What were their names?"
"Please don't fire them, Zayn. They were just gossiping and I was eavesdropping." As soon as the words came out of my mouth, I really regretted it. That sounded horrible.
"Oh really? I just want to know their names, Belle."
"Susan and Emily but Emily said she thinks we're cute."
"Well she gets to keep the internship."
Zayn drove me back home and I made him swear on his life he wouldn't fire them, but merely talk to them. For some reason in my mind, I knew it wouldn't end well, but I am horrible at keeping secrets.
In seventh grade I told Kayla's crush that she liked her as a joke, thinking she would laugh but boy was I wrong. That girl de-friended me on any social media I had way back then. Though, it was quite embarrassing when she told everyone I wet the bed when I was six.
I hadn't seen much of her lately. She dropped out of Swim for some strange reason and won't return any of my phone calls or text messages. She must still be mad about Zayn.
School was going good for me. I had Tennis, Calculus, and then the internship every single day. I went home at 2:55 every day and Zayn came along with me or he drove me home.
We had a good system worked out where he could take me most mornings and it was fun because I saw him throughout the whole day.
Paul had surprisingly stayed around much longer than I planned. Him and Melissa were actually fairly adorable together and I could tell there was really something there.
The next week it was officially fall and not summer any more. Of course I wore something warm because this was New York and everything in New York was cold.
"How are you today?" Right after I got to Malik Incorporated, Zayn greeted me and handed me coffee.
"I'm good, it's a little cold," I laughed and he did too.
I coughed loudly and he raised his eyebrow. "Just a tickle."
"We have a charity fundraiser in about a month and I would like you to be my date."
"Are you asking or telling me?"
"Would you like to be my date to our charity fundraiser?"
"I would love to, what is the fundraiser for?"
"Comic relief."
