Ruby sighed as she doodled on the blank sheet of paper before her. She knew that she should be paying attention, and she knew she'd be scolded by Weiss later, but she was so bored. Professor Port was rambling again. To his left, stood a boy who looked as bored as Ruby. She was immediately interested. There's something about that boy... she thought. His hair was deep black, but with a slight touch of purple, somewhat like the red in Ruby's hair. It framed his face, the tips curling slightly. He was almost as pale as Weiss, and had cold but piercing blue eyes. He wore a black trench coat that was tattered around the bottom, over an equally dark suit. From his waist hung two weapons, a katana and a rapier that was noticeably larger then Weiss's. He wore a black glove on his left hand, while his right brandished a metallic claw glove with strange markings on it. After a while, the boy placed a hand on Port's shoulder. "What? Oh, right, right" Port said, clearing his throat "this is a new student, his name is Jet Fitzgerald, I expect you all to show him the ropes. Jet, please take your seat."
Jet silently began up the stairs to the open seats. He sat down across the stairs from Ruby. "Now then, who would like to tell me the fastest way to execute a Beowulf?" Port asked. Jet shyly raised his hand. "Ah, Jet!" Port called. "Decapitation" Jet said. His voice was cold and bored, but sincere as well. "Very good, now, from my experience-"
This is the part where Ruby tuned out the professor's mindless rambling.
Once the bell rang, Ruby made a dash for the cafeteria. "I think that Professor Port needs to get his priorities straight" Weiss complained "his lessons consist of nothing but his own reminiscing."
Ruby glanced at her friend, who had the usual scowl on her face. "I agree" Ruby's sister Yang said "it gets sooo boring". Ruby noticed Jet sitting alone in the corner of the cafeteria, the same look of boredom on his face. He was writing in a notebook. "Ruby! Are you listening!?" Weiss demanded. "Oh, uh yeah" she said glancing at her friend, before going back to staring at Jet. "What are you gawking at!?" Weiss growled, trying to follow her gaze. "Ahh, staring at the new guy?" Yang said, smirking "what was his name?"
"Jet" Blake said, not taking her eyes off her book.
"There's something different about him" Ruby said "I just can't put my finger on it?". "Could it be that you find him attractive?" Weiss said, with almost disdain in her voice. "Uh oh, the new guy's in trouble" Yang said "here comes CRDL". Ruby stood up and headed for their direction. She slowed down once she was in earshot.
"Why can't we just call you new guy, new guy?" One of them said.
"Because my name is Jet" he answered.
"What's in the notebook?" Another asked.
"My sketches" he said.
"Let me take a look at it" one of then said, trying to grab it.
Jet violently grabbed his arm and jerked it in an awkward way, causing a loud snap, followed by a cry of pain. The team quickly carried away their injured friend. Jet rested his cheek on his fist. Ruby approached, then sat down next to him. "Hi, I'm Ruby" she said "sorry about those guys." Jet looked at her and waved. His lack of speech reminded her of Ren.
"What team are you on?"
"I'm not on a team"
"Wow, I didn't know that was even allowed"
"There isn't enough people for me to be on a team"
The bell rang, startling Ruby. She looked back at Jet, but he was gone. "Wha-!? How!?" She said aloud. "Come on Ruby!" Weiss called from across the cafeteria. "Coming!" She called back.
After her classes, she was talking to Weiss when she noticed three of team CRDL's members tailing Jet. "Hold that thought" Ruby said, running after them. "Wha-! Ruby! Get back here!" Weiss demanded. Ruby noticed Jet was headed for the roof. She realized he was aware of his pursuers, and was leading them to a battlefield. he's going to take them all on? Ruby thought. She tailed them to the roof. She hid behind a stray pipe. Jet walked to the edge, then turned around. "I didn't think you'd follow me up here" he said. "Your gonna pay" one of them said. They drew their weapons. "Draw your sword" one of them ordered. "I have no need of them" he said. "Arrogant prick!" The leader said, swinging his savage mace. Jet was no longer standing in front of him, he now stood behind him. "Woah" Ruby whispered. He swung the mace again. Jet caught it, then struck his wrist with a chop, causing him to let go. Jet threw away the weapon, before being attacked by the other two. He kicked each of them in turn, sending both to their backs. The third one threw a punch, but Jet caught his arm and threw him across the rooftop. Jet took a deep breath before brushing himself off. "My name is Jet Fitzgerald" he told them "you would do well to remember it."
He cracked his neck, then his knuckles. "You can come out, Ruby" Jet said, causing her to yelp from surprise. She sighed, then stood up. "You're sharp" she chuckled "and fast."
"Why are you here?"
"I wanted to see the fight....also, I was on standby if you needed help"
"Fair enough"
He glanced at the unconscious students. "Let's have this conversation elsewhere".
Ruby walked beside Jet, who had yet to speak. "So, where'd you learn to fight?" Ruby asked. "I was raised by my father" he said "he put me through hell and back to train me the way he had, this is actually his. "He gestured to the katana at his hip. Ruby nodded, unintentionally starring his swords. "What's her name?" He asked. "Um, who?" Ruby asked, confused. "Your scythe" Jet said. "Oh!" She said, quickly revealing her "Crescent Rose!"
"What a magnificent weapon" Jet remarked, making Ruby blush "you forged it yourself?". "Uh, yeah" Ruby said "but if you asked.....have you given your swords names?"
"Um, yeah" he said unsheathing them. "This is Amejisuto" he said, holding up his katana. Ruby gazed at the blade. It's hilt was purple and black, and the blade was covered in runes. He gazes lovingly at the blade, before holding up his rapier. "This is Purpura" he said. The blade was wider then Weiss's, and it was plainer then hers. He looked at this sword in the same way he had the other. He sheathed them both, scratching the back of his head.
"Sorry" he said bashfully "I'm kind of a weapon freak". "Oh, so am I" she said "that's why Rose is so intricate". "I see" he said "well, I'll see you around"
"Wait, where are you going?" she called after him.
"Your pale friend is coming and she doesn't look happy" he said without looking back "I'd rather not get involved". Ruby turned around, coming face to face with an unhappy looking Weiss.
