Ruby sighed, staring at Jet's empty seat in class. She knew that Weiss was doing the same, and that Yang and Blake were pretending they weren't. Even Jaune and Pyrrah cast they occasional glance. It wasn't like last time, when they just didn't know where he was. This time they didn't even know if he was ALIVE, and a week after the explosion he still hadn't returned. To make matters worse, Weiss had tried to shrug off the kiss.
When class was dismissed, Ruby didn't say a word to anybody, she just left. She didn't even go to her next class. The teen instead found herself mindlessly wandering up to the rooftop. It was noon, but the day was dark and overcast. It looked as if it would rain any second. It was odd, Jet had only been a part of the group for around a month, but the thought of him being dead almost brought her to tears. She began to gently murmur under her breath.
"There's a day when all hearts will be broken
When a shadow will cast out the light
And our eyes cry a million tears
Help won't arrive"He voice slowly found more power behind it, she was now full on singing.
"There's a day when all courage collapses
And our friends turn and leave us behind
Creatures of darkness will triumph
The sun won't-"She stopped, hearing a noise behind her.
"Jet!?" She asked hopefully. Instead of the warm smile of the well dressed Huntsman in training, she found herself looking at the indifferent expression of his sister. Although, there was a remarkable resemblance between the two. "You.....you're his sister, right?" the redhead asked.
"Yes, I am" she replied, stepping forward and toward the ledge. "I'm here to tell you and your friends that my idiot brother managed to make it out alive. He's at the hospital now, you can go and see him." Ruby swore she had heared that voice before.
"Really!?" She asked excitedly, the composed herself. "Why are you telling me this?"
"You're all his friends, right? He hasn't woken up, I'm sure he would love to see you guys" she smirked. Raindrops began to fall here and there.
"But you're his sister, and what about Totchwick and that girl?" The teen questioned. Amythest looked up to the sky.
"It's better if he doesn't know what happened after he saved us last week, and overall he's better off without our company" she answered, hiding the sadness in her words well. "And don't tell him we had this conversation, the dumbass will just go looking for us."
"Hey, he's your brother! You shouldn't talk about him like that!" Ruby snapped. She knew she heared that voice before, but where?
"Yeah, but..." the woman said with a sad smile. "Keep in mind people are the hardest on the ones they love most." Like that it clicked in Ruby's mind, hearing those words again. Before the redhead could say anything else, the Faunus leaped off the building. She watched the silver haired girl land and dash away. She turned and began to run as well. She flew down the stairs and off the roof. She found her team had just started to climb them in search of her. She took a flying leap over them and landed at the bottom.
"Ruby, you dolt!" Weiss snapped.
"What's the rush, sis?" Yang asked.
"Jet's alive, he's in the hospital! Come on! Let's move!" The redhead resumed her run down the hallway, this time joined by her team. JNPR came running out into the hall after them.
"What's going on!?" Jaune called after them.
"Just follow us!" Blake called back. Now all eight teens were running down the halls and out to the shuttles.
A quick ride and an explanation later and the eight arrived at the hospital. The look that the receptionist gave the ragtag group of Huntsman and Huntresses in training would've made Ruby laugh had she not been so worried. Ruby leaned over the desk.
