Ruby sighed as she set down the last piece of the drum set. She had been helping Jet organize the instruments. "Thanks for your help, Ruby" Jet said as he set down one of the larger of the drums. "Man, I have so much energy now!" Ruby said "I don't know what to do."
"We could spar" Jet offered. Ruby's face lit up with excitement. "Let's do it" she said with a smile on her face.
They were at the same spot where Jet had fought Weiss. Crescent Rose unfolded in Ruby's hand. Jet stood in a ready position, but head yet to draw a weapon. "Aren't you going to draw one of your swords?" Ruby asked, as she switched to non lethal rounds.
"I will if I have to" Jet said.
"Your funeral" Ruby said.
She leaped at him with a speed boost from her semblance. She swung her scythe, aiming at his right shoulder. Jet caught the blade with his right hand, Ruby remembered he had a metal glove on that hand. She leaped back, aided by a burst from the shot she fired. Jet was slightly unbalanced now, so Ruby slashed again with her scythe. Jet had disappeared again.
"Not bad" he said from a couple yards away.
"How do you keep doing that?" Ruby asked.
Jet just smiled, and drew his katana. "Amejisuto" he said in a low voice "lend me your strength."
Ruby leapt at him, chaining together a combination of strikes with Crescent Rose. Jet parried each one with expert percision. Ruby kept pressure on her last strike, trying to overpower Jet. He stood strong, not budging an inch. He pushed Ruby back. She stumbled back before counterattacking. Jet slashed upwards with such force that it sent Crescent Rose flying away. Ruby stumbled and fell backwards. Ruby was defeated, and felt that way too.
"S-sorry" he said, sheathing his sword and extending his hand to Ruby.
"It's fine" she said as he helped her up "did you see were Crescent Rose landed?"
"Yeah, it...stuck into......the.....statue" Jet said "oh boy, we're in trouble."
Ruby looked down at her feet, then at Jet, who was sitting next to her. "What do you have to say for yourselves?" demanded Professor Goodwitch. She stood next to Ozpin, who was sipping some coffee. "It was an accident" said Ruby. "At least it hit the Beowulf" Jet remarked, making Ruby giggle a little. "Mr. Fitzgerald" Goodwitch scolded "this is not the time for jokes!"
"What shall we do professor?" Goodwitch asked. "I see no reason to punish them" Ozpin said "Ruby, your dismissed. Professor Goodwitch, please take her to her room. Jet, please stay here."
"Yes sir" Jet and Goodwitch said in unison.
Ruby couldn't help but worry about Jet. Weiss was scolding her for being reckless, but she wasn't paying attention. Blake and Yang were elsewhere, so it was only Ruby and Weiss. "You know" said Weiss "I wonder where he learned to fight like that."
"He said his father trained him" Ruby sighed, laying back on her bed.
"What do you think of him?"
"He's really cool, why?"
"You've spent the most time with him"
"I mean why are you curious......ooh, is it because he said you were cute!?"
"Wha-? No!"
Ruby hung her torso over the edge of her bed so she could see her white haired friend, who was blushing. "You sure?" Ruby giggled.
"I'm not the only one he's called cute you know!" Weiss growled "he said the same about you!"
Ruby was caught off guard, and could feel her face turning red. She hopped out of bed, noticing the look of sadness in Weiss's eyes. "Hey" she said sweetly "what's wrong?"
"I hate getting complements" said Weiss, refusing to look at the younger girl "I don't like the way I look."
"Why not?" Ruby asked "your so pretty."
"No I'm not" Weiss said, rolling over to face the wall "I'm short, near flat chested, and there's this..."
She touched the scar on her left eye. There was a moment of silence, Ruby had never seen Weiss like this. Ruby crawled onto the bed and hugged Weiss.
"Just because you don't find yourself attractive doesn't mean your not" Ruby said sweetly "I myself think your really beautiful, and an excellent singer."
Weiss rolled over, Ruby expected her to yell. Ruby was surprised when she hugged back. Weiss's embrace was tight and warm. Her arms were around Ruby's waist and Ruby had her arms around Weiss's shoulders. Zwei snoozed by Weiss's calves. She smelled of vanilla, a scent Ruby was fond of. The combination of the smell and the warmth was making Ruby drowsy. "W-Weiss?" Ruby yawned, but Weiss was already asleep. Ruby herself was slowly drifting away. The last thing she did before falling asleep was turn out the lamp.
