Ruby spotted Yang and Blake sitting with Jet from across the campus. She noticed he had an acoustic guitar. He strummed it at a steady pace. Ruby hurried over, eager to hear what he was playing. Once she was in earshot, she could immediately tell that he was better with the guitar then Jaune. Ruby sat down next to her sister. He's relaxed she thought, looking over at Jet. His lips parted and he sang softly;
"Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you were to go
So make the best of this test and don't ask why
It's not a question but a lesson learned in time
It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life"
*he's much better then Jaune* Ruby thought *his voice is so gentle *.
"So take the photographs and still frames in your mind
Hang it on the shelf, in good health and good time
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth, it was worth it all the while
It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life"
The notes he was playing got higher, it seemed like we was showing off. He smiled, something he didn't do often.
"It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life"
The song ended, the last note still resonating from the guitar. "You weren't kidding" Yang said "that was pretty good."
"Do you play any other instruments?" Blake asked.
"To be fair you two still have yet to answer my question" said Jet "do you two play anything?"
"I'm a drummer" yang said, smirking.
"I have some experience with the piano" Blake said shyly.
"I can play anything with strings" Jet said, looking over at Ruby "what about you?."
"Oh, I uh, I have a bass, but I can't play it" Ruby said.
"I could always teach you" he offered.
"Hey!" Yang said excitedly "I have an idea!"
"Did it hurt?" Jet joked. Yang play playfully elbowed him.
"Let's start a band" Yang giggled "it's something to do with our free time."
They all looked at one another in agreement. "What about instruments?" Blake asked. "I have that covered" Jet said, reaching in to his pocket "I have a synthesizer you can use, Blake. We are, however going to need some drums. Yang, take this and get what you need. Blake, Ruby, come with me."
He handed Yang some Liem. "How much is here?" She asked. "Enough" Jet said, walking away. "Shall we?" Ruby asked Blake. "Let's go" Blake said. They both stood up and followed. "See ya soon, Yang!" Ruby called to her sister. Yang waved as she ran off campus, and Blake waved back.
"Sooooo" Ruby said, catching up to Jet "you seem to be doing better."
"Yeah" he said "fights do that to me."
"So what are we doing?" Blake asked.
Ruby was glad to see she wasn't as worked up as she had been lately. "You'll get reacquainted with you piano skills, and I'll teach Ruby how to use her bass" Jet answered "how's Weiss, by the way?"
"Sleeping like a baby" Ruby said "she's really cute when she's tired."
They stopped by the girl's room to pick up Ruby's bass, then headed to Jet's. In his room there were three packed boxes, a bed, a couple swivel chairs, and string instruments everywhere. Blake spotted the synthesizer, and walked over to it. She pressed a few of the keys, playing the tune of "Ode to Joy".
"Yeah, I can work with this" she said.
"All right" Jet said, picking up his own bass "I'll be over here teaching Ruby, if you need help."
He sat down on his bed, gesturing for Ruby to sit down on one of the chairs. He plucked a couple strings, then began tuning it. Once he was satisfied, he looked back at Ruby. "Okay" he said "let's begin."
Where did that guy get this kind of throw around money? Yang thought, looking at the cash in her hand, then at her purchase. She was going to have the drums delivered to Beacon, where she assumed they would put them in Jet's room. She handed the cashier the money, then headed out the door.
I wonder what we should name ourselves? she thought as she tore down the highway on her bike. Multiple names popped into her head, but she wasn't fond of any of them. Yang wondered how things were going back at school. While she was out, she had saw a newspaper article saying that a vigilante called the Black Claw was causing the White Fang trouble. She hoped that Blake didn't here the news to soon, out of fear that Blake might start back up again. Yang heard sirens, snapping her back to reality, she watched police vehicles chase another out from under the underpass up ahead. Yang hopped her bike over the guard on the side of the road, landing on the lower one. She quickly raced passed the police cars, easily catching up to the speeding vehicle. She activated one of her gauntlets and shot the front driver side tire, causing the vehicle to spin out. Yang quickly made a u-turn and was once again headed back to Beacon.
"Hellooooo!" Yang said in her usual sing-song voice, while entering Jet's room. "Hey, Yang" Blake said cheerfully. "How's it going around here?" Yang asked.
"Pretty good" Blake answered "I'm getting pretty good with this thing."
"That's great!" Yang said, looking over at her younger sister and her new friend "what about you guys?"
"Great!" Ruby purred.
"She's picking up on this quickly" Jet commented thoughtfully "faster then I anticipated, to be honest."
There was something familiar about him, but Yang couldn't figure out what. "Hey, isn't there a talent show coming up?" Yang asked. "Yeah, technically it's a competition" Blake said, pulling out her Scroll "tryouts start tomorrow, how convenient."
"Great!" Ruby said "I'll have to practice hard, with your help of course, Jet."
"I'm here to help" Jet said.
"Hey Yang" Blake said, putting a hand on her shoulder "I need to talk to you."
Yang followed Blake out into the hall. "What's up?" Yang asked.
"In a daring show of courage, a blonde vigilante on a yellow motorcycle halted a thief that the local police were pursuing. She did so by driving off an overpass, catching up to the perpetrator, then firing a single shotgun shell at the front driver side tire, before riding away. Unfortunately, no eye witnesses were able to see exactly what the woman looked like" Blake read from her scroll "this is a breaking news update, sound familiar?"
"I, uh...." Yang said, not having an excuse "I-"
Blake put a finger to Yang's lips, silencing the blonde. "I'm not mad that you did what you did, I just want you to be careful" Blake said, making the blonde blush "please?"
Yang's heart was picking up it's pace. Yang pulled her faunus friend into a tight hug. "Best partner ever" Yang said "I'll be careful, I promise!"
They stood like that for a minute before shyly letting go. "Thank you" Blake said, noticing a truck with a music shop logo. Yang noticed it too. "Those are the drums" Yang said "Alright! Let's start practicing!"
