Weiss sighed, she was feeling lonely. Zwei wined, craving her attention. Weiss laid a hand on him, stroking his fur. The others would be auditioning for the the talent contest soon. Weiss stood up and headed for the door. She made her way down the halls, across the campus, through the school, and up the stairs. She stood on the roof, where Ruby said Jet had beat up team CRDL. She stared out at the view. She wished she knew how to play an instrument, so that she may join her friends. She took a deep breath and parted her lips. Her voice was clear and somber as she sang the slow melancholy notes;

"Mirror, tell me something

Tell me who's the loneliest of all"

She suddenly felt someone behind her, causing her to stop singing and quickly draw her sword. She quickly spun around, about to slash whoever was there. Ruby and Jet stood by the door, starring as if they were dumbfounded.

"That was....amazing" Ruby said, grinning.

"Sh-shut up" Weiss said, blushing.

"No, she's right, your a beautiful singer" Jet agreed, making a face like he had an idea.

"What?" Weiss asked, sheathing her rapier.

Jet and Ruby looked at each other and nodded. They each grabbed one of Weiss's hands, and began to guide her across the roof. She protested as they drug her through the school. They drug her backstage of the auditorium.

"How long?" Jet asked Yang.

"We have one minute" she answered.

"Okay, you and Blake take your places" he ordered, picking up a violin.

Ruby went with Yang and Blake. "Weiss" he said turning to the white haired heiress and gripping her shoulders "I need you to sing."

"Wh-what?" Weiss asked.

"For the show" he said "will you sing the song you just were on the roof?"

Weiss didn't know what to say, she was flattered. He offered her a microphone, but she hesitated. What are you doing!? she thought. This is what you wished for, your chance to join them!

"You can count on me!" She said grabbing the mic.

Weiss strode confidently onstage, followed by Jet. A pit formed in her stomach when she looked out at the audience, which was made up of other contestants and the judges. The three judges were professors Oobleck, Peaches, and, much to her surprise, Ozpin. Weiss stood at the front of the stage, between Blake (on her left) and Ruby (on he right), who stood a couple steps behind her. Jet stood between her and Ruby, a couple paces ahead of Ruby, but a few behind Weiss. Yang was at the back of the stage on an elevated platform with her drums. There was a mic on a stand a little to Weiss's right. Weiss looked at Jet, who gave her a look of encouragement, before cuing Blake.

Blake being to play a solemn melody. Weiss waited for a couple seconds, she was shaking from nervousness. She took a deep breath, as she had earlier, and began to slowly sing;

"Mirror, tell me something

Tell me who's the loneliest of all"

There was a moment of rest, before Jet played a fast and uplifting measure, followed by Yang beginning a steady beat, almost immediately followed by Weiss's voice. Blake and Ruby were the last to join Yang's rythmn. The lyrics had picked up to a faster more upbeat tone;

"Mirror, tell me something

Tell me who's the loneliest of all

Fear of, what's inside of me

Tell me can a heart be turned, to stone"

Blake and Jet broke away, playing in turn. They both paused, while Yang switched up the beat, before pausing as well. Blake played a redundant tune while Weiss vocalized in a way that made her sound almost distressed. Jet drew his bow across the strings, creating one loud and abrupt note after the next, Yang's drumming matching his rhythm flawlessly. Ruby took a step forward to the mic as Blake joined in again. Weiss glanced at Ruby then the two began to harmonize;

"Mirror, mirror, what's behind you?

Save me from the things I see

I can keep it from the world

Why won't you let me hide from me?

Mirror, mirror, tell me something

Who's the loneliest of all?"

Yang and Jet brought there instruments to a loud finish. Ruby stepped back, Weiss was once again sung alone. The only thing accompanying her voice now was a slow, earnest melody from Blake. The lyrics were slow, drawn out, and clear;

"I'm the loneliest of all"

There was a moment of silence. Everyone onstage, who had become so lost in there song, was now once again aware of the eyes burning into them. Loud cheering erupted from the audience, causing all of them an intense feeling of joy. Weiss had a huge grin on her face, she smiled back at her friends. First Ruby, then Jet, then Blake and Yang. They all took a bow, then hurried offstage. They gathered backstage, cheering and laughing.

"You guys were great!" Jet praised.

"W-what do you mean?" Ruby said.

"Yeah" Weiss agreed "we should be saying that to you."

"Me?" Jet said "I wasn't the only one up there."

"You're the one who supplied the instruments" Yang said, ruffling Ruby's hair "and you taught Ruby how to play."

Weiss wrapped her arms around Jet and Ruby, which was difficult do to the size difference between the three.

"Thank you both" Weiss said, holding them tight. She let go, becoming self conscious.

"Well what now?" Ruby asked.

"We take the night off" said Jet "then resume practice tomorrow."

"Sound great" Yang agreed.

"In that case" Blake said with a yawn "I'm going to bed."

"That's another good idea" Yang said. The two of them began to walk away.

"I'm going to go study" Weiss said.

"Hey, um, would you like me to teach you to play this?" Jet asked, holding up his violin. Weiss was caught by surprise.

"It's just that, this is very elegant instrument" Jet said bashfully "something I figured you would appreciate."

Weiss blushed at his compliment.

"Uh, yeah" she said "that sounds great."

With that, she walked away. She had an unfamiliar feeling in her chest, similar to excitement. She shrugged it off as simple adrenaline.
