A/N So in my school (I'm in eighth grade) the seventh graders have had a new kid this year and I never knew her name. My friend asked and she said "Maria" or "Mariah" idk how it's spelt. And my friend said "Carey." At the same time I said "Reynolds" and I realized how society is too different from me

As we finally found a boat, we called over the captain, a big, buff man with brown hair and plenty of tattoos. He stomped over and Amanda started talking.

"Captain, we need to get onto your ship. Are you heading to Albany?" She asked. He nodded barely. "But it'll cost you." He said, voice deep and gruff. Amanda smirked and dug into her pocket, pulling out three shillings and the sixpence, which was quite a pricy amount.

The man raised his eyebrows before snatching the money, slipping it into a hidden pocket. He nodded once. "Alright. But you pull your weight or you go overboard." He said sternly. We both nodded and he turned away.

I gave a quiet cheer and Amanda smiled. "Let's go, Sailor." She said, choosing a new and random nickname. I laughed and followed her onto the vessel.

I haven't had much experience with different crews, but I was convinced this one was rude and awful.

They ordered us around like dogs, threatened to toss us to the water, cursed unimaginable words, and a fight broke out every hour!

Right now, it was the dead of night and Amanda and I, plus one burly rude man named Cooper, were on night watch. That meant we cleaned the deck, watched out for ships or rocks, and made breakfast in the dead of night.

I glanced nervously at Amanda, who had her eyes glued to Cooper. She has the dagger sheathed under her tunic right now, and she seemed to be itching to use it.

I swallowed and looked down to the deck I was mopping. We had to use a special solution that smelled like death in order to keep the wood from rotting, so I smelled like death right now. God above, I can't wait to get home and have a proper bath!

Home. Every time I thought about it, I thought about C/N and Alexander. Now that I know the truth about C/N, I don't feel a shred of guilt for the kiss with Alexander.

How am I going to tell Mr.C/L/N about his son?! 'Oh hi, I'm back! Oh and by the way your son is a traitor and tortured and almost killed me!' I scoffed aloud at my own thoughts. How stupid!

Oh and the boys and Cornelia! They will be heartbroken!! And I can't even imagine the wrath Angelica and Margarita will try to unleash! All the while, Elizabeth would be crying with me.

"Hey! Newman!" A rough voice snapped. I blinked and looked up. I kept my last boat name, for reputation sake. Cooper was glaring at me. I could tell he called my name before and I hadn't heard."Kitchen. You and Jameson." He ordered. I rested the mop against the wood wall of the captain's room and headed for the kitchen, Amanda in tail.

We shut the doors and I sighed, leaning against the counter. Amanda relaxed beside me. Her fake name was Patrick Jameson, courtesy of me.

Amanda looked at me tiredly. "Was boat life always this bad?" She panted out. I shook my head. "This crew is awful." She nodded her agreement. We sat in silence for a few long moments before I pushed off the counter.

"You want to wash dishes or clean the rest of the room?" I asked. It didn't seem fair, but these men were pigs! Their dishes were cracked and so dirty I didn't know what color they were. And there was a small mountain.

Amanda scowled and pointed to the sink. "Dishes." She croaked. I chuckled sarcastically and got to work on the counters.
