It was a pleasant Saturday evening in Sheetrock Hills. The sky was a purplish-orange, and the sun was just beginning to move towards the west.
Manny Garcia aka Handy Manny was in his shop. His tools were arguing among themselves.
"Cool down, Turner, we were just joking!" said Pat.
The flathead screwdriver shot the claw hammer a bad glance. "Can you just keep quiet?"
Pat was annoyed. He went back to the table and crept inside the toolbox.
Manny was sitting on the sofa, and reading a songbook. "Qué estás leyendo, Manny?" asked Flicker.
"Tomorrow is Kelly's birthday, Flicker," said Manny. "Quiero cantarle una canción especial."
"You should, Manny!" said Squeeze. "She's your best friend!" added Stretch.
Manny smiled. He had always had a huge crush on Kelly, but no one, not even his tools knew.
"Can we be your instrumentalists?" asked Dusty and Felipe.
Manny nodded. Just then, the phone rang.
"Hola, Handy Manny's repair shop. You break it -"
"We fix it!" yelled the tools.
"This is Manny."
"Hello Manny," said Elliot Crenshaw, Kelly's younger brother.
"Oh, hey Elliot! What's the matter?" asked Manny.
"We're planning a surprise for Kelly. Would you and the tools mind in helping us?"
"Of course not, Elliot! I'll be there soon!"
"Great! Mr Lopart and Mrs Portillo are helping too! See you!"
Manny put the phone back and turned to his tools. "Guys, we've got a job to do!"
He counted each one of the tools (including himself). The tools sang and climbed into the toolbox, and they soon set out to the spot that Elliot had said.
