Manny and Kelly were a very compatible power couple. Quarrels rarely found the way into their relationship. And if they did, both of them always had a way to make up again.
On days when all the repairs had been completed, Manny liked spending time with his girlfriend and his little friends - his nephews and their friends.
The older kids - Pepe, Lyle, Leland, Kyle, Kevin, Steven and Quinn were learning many things from Manny. He taught them how to do small repairs like replacing a light bulb, tightening loose cupboard handle screws, etc. Mr Lopart was envious that his nephews were learning from Manny, but he couldn't rue the fact that Manny was better than him.
Julieta, Alex, Susanna, Nelson and Marcelo, on the other hand, were learning new games, as they were too young to do repairs. Manny helped them invent their own games, while Chico and Susanna's sister Isabella, played with a big, soft ball which Kelly had made by herself. The two toddlers seemed to be getting along well.
The parents were astonished at Manny's effortless way of distracting their children. "Manny, how do you mange to keep all the children in check?" asked Mrs Alvarez, when she came to pick up Susanna and Isabella.
"They're my friends, Senora Alvarez," replied Manny with a smile. "And during hot days, I love spending time with friends."
Mrs Alvarez grinned. She admired Manny for his childlike enthusiasm and persistence to do what he wanted, and was sure that her two girls could get a lot of inspiration from him.
After all the children had gone home, Manny got a call from Kelly saying that she wanted to go on a date, and he agreed.
"Manny, can we go into that club?" she asked him after they had reached a certain street.
"Unless we have to drink any alcohol..."
"I hate alcohol," said Kelly. "We'll just go inside and shake our legs."
Manny agreed. Both of them entered the club, and stayed close to each other.
A drunk man looked at Kelly in an unsafe way, but Manny defended her.
That day, she would never forget.
