The One

Chapter 54

I arrive home and find the apartment alone. Nor Niall or Kendall are here. I then hear a knock on the door. I open it and find Jake.

"Ariana?"

"Jake."

"When did you arrive?"

"Couple hours ago, I just got home though."

Jake opens his arms and hugs my body making me feel uncomfortable. "Is everything ok?" he asks.

"Yes, everything is fine, I am just tired."

He comes in and I start to cook a meal for us to eat. I start to think and space out. He has to know, I have to tell him now before its too late.

I finish cooking and go grab the ring box. I open it and show it to Jake.

"Ariana, w-why are you crying?"

"Jake, I can't do this," I say my voice shaky.

"Do what? Marry me? Is it too soon? Because I," he says not finishing because I interrupt.

"Jake, its not about that. Well kind of but not really."

"Then what is it?"

"Tell him Ariana, tell him the truth," I say in my head.

"I can't marry you," I finally say.

His eyes go blank. "Look I can return the ring, and we can take this slower."

Gosh, why is this so fucking difficult, why can't I just say what I have to say without receiving questions?

I nod left and right in attempt to say no. "I am sorry Jake."

"Ariana," he says coming closer to me. "I love you so much, and you are the girl I want to spend the rest of my life with. You've met my parents they love you, you know me well. We have been dating for years. I just don't understand," he says then doesn't finish his sentence. "Is it because of him?" he later asks.

"Harry, yes its because of him."

"You still love him?"

"Yes," I say nodding.

"But he hurt you! How can you still love him after hurting you!?" he says loud. I take a step back. "Why are you that stupid?" he says.

His words take me by shock, i've never thought Jake would talk to me like that? What happened to that sweet, charming guy I met in high school?

"Jake!"

He then realizes what he said and apologizes. "I'm sorry," he says then walks out of the apartment.

I clean the kitchen up and head to my room to pack everything up, all of my stuff leaving the room empty. I fill my car up with all the boxes and head back to the apartment to wait for Kendall.

I happen to fall asleep when I hear a key turning in the door knob, the lights are off and then they turn on, revealing Kendall and Niall.

"Ariana!" she yells.

I've heard that so many times, maybe because I run from people and return without letting them know, and I need to stop running away from stuff and people.

"When did you get here? Was your mom ok?"

"I got here few hours ago and yes she's fine. I need to speak with you actually."

Niall grabs the keys and leaves us alone to talk.

"What is it?"

"I'm going back home, where I belong. I am done trying to hide my feelings for him."
