>───⇌••⇋───<Queenie watched the sea, lost in the rhythmic percussion of waves crashing against the boat. Her eyes steady on the horizon, her face glowed with the last orange rays before twilight beckoned the stars. Her lips bore the semblance of a smile, just enough to show that she was enjoying her thoughts.
The masked man moved closer so that she could feel his presence, yet remained quiet, allowing him to stay in the moment a while longer.
She let out a little sigh, gazing into the sunset.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” he said, causing Queenie to snap out of her tranquil trance. Sitting beside her on the bench, he inhaled her beautiful scent of rose and geranium.
Queenie nodded, closing her computer. “It really is.” She turned towards the masked man, gazing into his winter wheat eyes. “Where… where did you go?”
“What do you mean, Quincy?” he asked, tilting his head slightly.
“Yesterday was the first time I’ve seen you in a while, two weeks almost. Now all of a sudden, you want to appear like Batman every time a thought of you pops into my head!” Queenie exclaimed, resting her hand on her temple.
“Quincy,” he chuckled, scooting closer towards the elder Heart sibling, “are you jealous that I’m spending more time with your sister than you?”
“Wh-What?!” Queenie scoffed, looking away from the man as a blush crept up her cheeks. “No!”
“Quincy, your sister is my friend and nothing more.” He rested his hand under her chin, turning her head back towards him. “You, however,” he leaned in, slowly closing the gap between them “You’re something more than just a friend,” he whispered, his breath bouncing off her lips and sending waves throughout her body.
“You’re very special to me, Quincy.” His soft thumb stroked her cheek. “You’re like the ocean. Mysterious, yet welcoming. Kind, yet tough. Graceful, yet powerful. Something about that is pulling me towards you, wanting to be next to you, wanting to talk about you, wanting to be with you.”
She gulped, scooting back as fear got the best of her. “N-NO!”
“Quincy, what’s wrong?” he asked, backing away from her.
“You can’t just suddenly appear after being gone for two weeks, then say this and expect me to fall for you like some silly school girl!” Queenie exclaimed, jumping up from her seat. “I’m not some bimbo idiot like the other girls you've been with. I’m smarter than that! I know you men. You play your games with my heart and break it in the end!”
“Quincy, you have me mistaken for those sleazy men on the street. I assure you I’m not like that.” He said, standing up in front of her. “My mother taught me better than to play with a woman’s heart.”
“How would your mother react if I called her up right now and told her what’s been happening on the ship, huh? I bet she would hate to hear how her sweet boy is messing with my heart.” Queenie glared at the man as she pulled out her phone, ready to dial. Unbeknownst to her were the eight missed calls from Charles.
