Queenie leaned over the balcony of her sister’s room. She decided to stay with Miriana while Charles was in solitary so she wouldn’t get lonely.

However, it felt as though Queenie was in solitary. Her phoenix hadn’t shown up in days, and she was starting to not only worry but get cold. Her body craved the warmth of the phoenix like how a plant craves sun and water.

Just the thought of the warmth from the phoenix made her shiver. She glanced down at the blessing on her wrist and stroked it gently; she couldn’t help but smile. She didn’t even know his name, yet she felt closer to him than anyone else before.

The warmth that filled her heart felt like a slight sin. How could she love someone whose name she didn’t even know? How could she lust after someone who refused to show her the other side of his face? How could she feel so connected to a man she met only half a year ago?

She bit her lip and shook her head. “Queenie, you’re acting silly. You don't even know his name!” She gripped the railing. “No, Queenie, no. You don't have time for relationships. You have to protect your sister.”

“Is that what this is about?” Miriana yawned, rubbing her eyes as she stepped out onto the balcony. “You’ve been so focused on protecting me you forgot about all yourself.”

“Miriana, don't worry about me,” Queenie assured her and ruffled her hair. “I have everything under control.”

“Sure, you may have things under control when it comes to this Soren situation, but not when it comes to your love life. Queenie, don't you want the same love Charles and I have?” Miriana asked, resting her head on her sister’s shoulder.

“I do, Miriana, but sometimes family comes before love.” Queenie sighed.

“Stop using this mess as an excuse not to find happiness,” Miriana mumbled loud enough for her sister to hear.

“I-”

“Don't lie to me, Queenie.” Miriana rolled her eyes. “You’re using this chaos as a way to avoid being with him.”

“No, I’m not!” Queenie countered, earning a scoff from Miriana.

“You so are. You keep saying you don't have time for a relationship when you do,” the younger sister said, making her way back into the room. “Queenie, you have so many guards around your heart that you never realized he was trying to bring them down, not build more up.”

She wanted to respond, but Miriana was already back inside. With a sigh, she turned to the ocean. “I don't have walls… right?” she asked herself as a sudden gust of wind blew across the ship, sending shivers down Queenie’s spine.

She rubbed her arms to warm herself up, but it wasn’t working. Focused on keeping the cold away, she failed to notice the symbol on her wrist glowing.

Suddenly, a bright, orange yellow light flowed out from the symbol and down into her veins. She gasped. Warmth flooded her body as the lights trailed all around her body. Her cheeks flushed at the thought of her phoenix.
