NAINA's POV
"What's going on between you and Pam?" I asked wiping my face with a tissue after savouring my taste buds with the best doughnut of my life.
We were on a fun spree after getting out of the cafe, trying out snacks and desserts from food trucks parked on streets, merrily walking, laughing at silly jokes with our tummies full. It was fun. It was the first time I felt really happy here, in this city.
"Nothing much. She's just my friend," he replied the usual answer which boys give to explain about their "girl" friends.
"Friend? You both are together all the time. Call yourselves husband and wife," I scoffed.
"She's not in a good place right now. I just want to support her. And I know you must be pissed off with her behaviour in the library today," he said pulling my cheeks which I felt was unnecessary.
"She acted like a bitch. I'm going easy on her because of the incident at Emily's party," I complained, pushing his hands away.
We were walking in no particular direction, swaying on the streets with the crowd.
"Her parents were divorced when she was a kid and her father received her custody. I think she's bitter because she was always deprived of her mother's love. And then that bullying she had to face," he sighed.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know that she had so much going on in her life," I said scratching my head for some more explanation. I can be so judgemental sometimes.
"It's alright. How would anyone know? She discussed all this with me one day. Although she's a chatterbox and I can't stand her sometimes, but I want to be there for her. Maybe that is why she gets possessive sometimes but I explained to her everything after the library thing."
"I understand. Is she going to report the incident to the cops?"
"She doesn't want to and I don't understand why," he seemed furious but was trying hard to hide it.
"Try to talk to her after a few days. If still, she doesn't want to report then just let it be. Maybe she has any trauma related to this too," I said.
"What if those beasts do something more bad to any other person?" He said with a mix of terror, concern and hate.
"I know! I feel the same but Pam has the final say in this matter."
He didn't say anything. We kept walking with the crowd without a hint of where we were going. The sky was devoid of clouds but I couldn't see the stars because of city pollution.
I pulled out the cellphone from my pocket. One missed call from Omer and the time was quarter past ten.
"Hey, you think we should head back?"
"Well I don't want to, but it's getting late so we should probably go," he said looking around to check for any possible danger of getting mugged.
We had just taken ten steps and I spotted a club, and a part of me flipped from the decision.
"Hey, do you want to have a beer before we head back to our rooms," I said cheerfully. I guess I was high without the alcohol!
"Woah! Okay, we'll get out from here before 11," he said looking at his wristwatch.
We entered the club and I texted Omer in the meanwhile.
"Sorry couldn't pick up your call. I'm outside with Phi. Will be there in my room in some time."
Phi ordered us two beers and we sat together watching couples grinding each other private parts in the facade of dance. We laughed watching some of them.
