PHI's POV

"I'll try everything
Every way I can
To make you feel the warmth of my love in your heart,
We just met by chance,
I looked in your eyes
It makes me know what we will be
Just you and me"

I received a big applause and a wide smile from her. I was waiting the whole time for her looking at the cafe door with my guitar by my side. As soon as I saw her enter, I hurriedly made all the adjustments and started. The fact that I started singing unannounced startled many customers and they all gazed at me alarmed at first but appreciative after a minute.

I got down from the stage and went up to her, holding the guitar in one hand.

"I thought you won't come," I said. In my heart I knew she'd come, but I wished to know the reason.

"I'm so so sorry, I over slept. I rushed to the cafe as soon as I woke up. I thought maybe you'd left by now," she said with regret in her eyes.

Her reason for getting late made me smile. We sat on a small table for two after I  placed my guitar in the case.

"How could I leave?" I said, making myself comfortable in the chair. Naina blinked and eyed me for a few moments, and then looked sideways trying to control a smile.

She was wearing the same clothes what she wore in college, her hair were left open, a little fuzzy but she still looked great. I didn't mind the messy look. Actually I liked it.

"I really liked the song. Actually I like the original Thai version, it's from the band scrubb, right?" She said breaking the ice.

"Yeah, you like Thai bands?"

"I watched few dramas, then heard this song and soon got hooked to all the songs of Scrubb. But I cannot learn the language ever in my life. I mean it's too tough."

I laughed.

"Yeah it is. That's why I thought I'd translate it in english, you know, to sing it for you," I said in a low voice, hopefully looking at her to get a positive response.

I had started liking her from first few days of the class. And it was not the "have sex and move on" kind. I genuinely liked her.

"The song was for me?" She asked grinning. I guessed from her reaction that she thought of this as pickup line and nothing more.

"Yeah, that's why I waited the whole time, while you were asleep," I teased.

"I'm sorry, quit teasing me now," she said punching my arm a little, "But it was splendid and I like your soothing voice," she added. I was exulted with her response and her funny punch was melting my heart. I had a hard time controlling myself from hugging her right now.

We sat silently for a minute, I was overjoyed and I wished that she was too.

"Hey, I'm sorry, I didn't buy you a coffee. Let me get one for you,  Cappuccino or something else?" Naina said getting up.

I held her hand and gently pulled her back to the seat. Without saying a word, I stretched my hand to get her coffee mug and took a sip from it. She frowned and then started laughing.

"Your confidence has hit the charts man. I remember the day we met in this very same cafe and you could not even look in my eyes."

"Now I want to look in your eyes forever," I said hoping she wouldn't think of it as some cheesy line.

She didn't say anything. She looked at her shoes for a while, pushing her lips together and then licking them, not in a seductive way.

"I'm sorry, I want to control my laughter but it's hard," she said laughing hysterically for some time, even her eyes started watering.

Fuck man! I've ruined everything.

"Sorry, sorry... " she said composing herself.

I silently stared the table for some time.

"Why are you saying these lame pickup lines? We are not teenagers anymore," she said emphasising on the last word.

"That was not a pickup line. And it's not like only teenagers can express their feelings," I said shyly.

"I think you watch a lot of dramas," she winked.

"No actually I don't, I'm more into crime," I replied narrowing my eyes.

"Like killing a girl because she laughed at your stupid pickup line," she said in a mysterious husky voice.

Now it was my turn to laugh. This was turning more into a teenage argument.

"Okay, if you don't wish to believe me then that's fine. But it was the truth."

"Oh, c'mon now," she said irritated.

Why isn't she ready to believe it?

"I think you've already received your fair share of clichè one liners from many many boys and you are bored of them now," I said leaning on the coffee table.

"No it's not like that. Forget it! You want to look in my eyes? Let's see for how long you can do it," she said leaning on the table as well, ready for a competition. She was being childish.

She thought I'll stare at her eyes like an idiot school kid and then grow weary, as she was doing the same. Instead I wanted to look deep in her soul.

Her face softened after my continued soft gaze, bringing her back from the competitive zone. I wanted to speak of all the feelings I had, through my eyes. Lost in them, I ignored the world around me.

"Okay, you can end the game now," she said turning away. She was tapping her feet fast and adjusting herself in the seat every now and then.

If this was a game, then it's the best one I've ever played.

"You're nervous. Am I making you blush?" I said tilting my head down a little, imitating the way she did when we first met at the cafe.

"Shut up!" She laughed and punched me again in the arm.

I laughed with her. Her sweet little punches, I liked them so much.

"Let's get out of here, I'll leave the guitar with the Mike," I said standing up.

"Who's Mike?"

"There, he's a waiter here part time and also my friend and neighbour," I said pointing to a mixed race guy with green apron. I had befriended Mike after I saw him at the cafe on the first day. I was even thinking about starting a part time job in the cafe here to manage my expenses, maybe I could sing every evening and make money.

"Mike, can I leave my guitar with you? I'll take it back tomorrow," I asked in a loud voice as he walked towards the counter. He was busy with orders.

"Yeah sure. Just keep it in the storage. I'll take it to my room later," he replied walking away with a two coffee mugs and muffins on a tray.

"Thanks buddy!" I said when he came to our table for a spare moment.

"No big deal. Enjoy your date man," he winked.
