NAINA's POV
"Can you set me up with Pam?" asked Seth.
I, Omer and Seth worked on our group assignment in my room, which we had to submit by 9 am. When the work was assigned to us the deadline was 2 weeks but we lazy asses started working on it a day before!
I'm tired of my laziness, why do I have to start working on the last day always??
Seth hunched on the bed and I leaned back on the wall on the opposite side; Omer used my study table, sometimes joining us on the bed. We started working after dinner; it would presumably take us the complete night to finish the work because we gossiped about our classmates now and then. Phi was one of the prime topics of gossip as Seth always teased me with his name.
Weeks had passed since the night out with Phi. With passing weeks I met him less often in the library, most of the time hanging out with others because I wanted to avoid him. I didn't like his behaviour in the club that night, the uncomfortable questions that he had put up and his closeness with Pam made me sceptical of him. Although I enjoyed that night, he managed to spoil my mood for some time. I think maybe somewhere I was at fault too: I shouldn't have kissed him, somewhere or the other I gave him the wrong impression. That is why I never liked the notion of casual dating, it's good for some time but then it turns into a big mess. In my case, things messed up pretty early. I made up my mind to stick to my original behaviour of taking it to step by step-- first love, then relationship, then kiss or anything else-- and not get influenced by modern love concepts.
But love eventually turns into a mess, doesn't it?
I was disheartened thinking about this. My mind boggled with thoughts.
I didn't want to try casual dating, I didn't want anything serious too! What do I want then? Why can't I figure out things in my life? I get a headache overthinking, but still, I cannot conclude!
"Hey, are you there?" Omer inquired waving his hand in front of my eyes. I snapped back in reality.
"Yeah, I was thinking about .. the work, so much of it is left and you are busy gossiping like girls," I replied concentrating on my laptop screen.
"Set me up with Pam!" Seth shrieked out.
"Why? Since when did you have any interest in her?" I was irked by her name sometimes.
"I got to know that Pam is quite rich, did Phi never mention it?" asked Omer
"No, we haven't talked much lately. And where did you hear this gossip from?"
"From Mark! He lives near her house, he heard it from Cassandra, Pam's neighbour and she heard it from their landlord. He even said that her father will pay for her house rent for only a year after that she has to manage on her own, you know he's teaching her the value of money," Omer's eyes sparkled like a little girl bitching about her best friend.
Mark was the nerdy boy of our class, it was hard for me to believe that he would indulge in such nonsense talks.
"It's just gossip, do you think the information wasn't extravagated by all these people who heard it and passed it on?"
"Whatever the extra information is, I don't care! The point is, she is rich and you have to set me up with her through Phi or should I ask him directly?"
"Yeah! Ask him, that would be a great favour on me," I replied annoyed.
"Why are you so cranky; are you on your periods?" asked Seth.
