It's been about 2 weeks since Kiyoomi's diagnosis and he had already begun treatment however improvements were still yet to be seem. Kiyoomi's lung cancer had already progressed into stage2 when he was diagnosed much to the couple's dismay. His tumour had spread into his kidney causing his urine to turn a crimson red and a constant nagging pain in his lower rib region. After much persuasion, Atsumu had miraculously been able to coax his stubborn lover to take a break from work. Kiyoomi was always tired. He was exhausted. His health was quickly deteriorating and there wasn't anything he could do about it other than wait and wait and wait...

Everyday was a never ending cycle. One he knew would only break at death. One that he dreaded with everything fibre of his being. Everyday, Atsumu would drive them to the hospital at 5am to start his treatment. Radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and dialysis. A repeated routine Kiyoomi would mindlessly clear each day while Atsumu paced around and bugged the doctors about his health updates. Atsumu was, needless to say, worried. Any and every person who walked pass him would be able to see the immense pain and worry that painted and dripped from his every feature. Atsumu sits outside the room, eyebrows pinched, eyes and nose red, hair tossled and messy, lips bit with heavy eye bags weighing on his skin. His back hunched as his fingers nit together in a tight interlock just to have a grip on something or someone had he continuously fell down from the sky waiting for either the end or hop to arrive. Once Kiyoomi was to come out of his therapy however, Atsumu seemed to be at peace beside his husband who would always greet him with a tired smile and a loving kiss to his lips. As they leave each day, Kiyoomi's doctors stare at the couple's retreating backs with a sad smile on their faces. All they could all do was hope for the best.

"Hey omi?" Atsumu voiced upon entering the house. "Yea?" Kiyoomi replied as he whipped his head around to face his husband. "Go take a shower first then do sleep okay?" Atsumu reached up to cup the taller's face in his hands as he pressed a chaste kiss to his nose. "Sweetheart, you go take a shower first. You've been stressing over me too much. You also need to rest or you'll overwork yourself. So go shower and get some rest okay?" Kiyoomi smiled softly as he stared into the same honey brown eyes that never fail t0 leave him breathless. "But—" the blonde was cut off by a soft chuckle coming from the raven as he wrapped his arms around his waist and pulled him into a warm and comforting embrace. "Go sleep okay? After I shower ill join you." Kiyoomi mumbled into the shorter male's soft hair, leaving no room for argument. Atsumu sighed before nodding and making his way to their shared bathroom. Kiyoomi couldn't help but smile at his husband as he stood in the living room.

After taking a shower, just as promised, Kiyoomi walked into their bedroom to be gifted what may as well be the most angelic image that he wanted to hold onto forever. A smile spread across his porcelain face as his onyx eyes could seem to leave the sight before him. Atsumu laid sandwiched between their wool blanket and duvet, both shielding him from the immense cold outside their windows and beyond their walls. The lights were off while a strip of yellowish sunlight slipped between the gaps of their heavy night curtains, The strip of light contoured to travel up and down the sleeping male's natural curves without as much as making him stir. Not one being on the earth dared to disrupt the resting angel as everything came to a peaceful pause for the blonde. Kiyoomi forgot his pain as his loving gaze lingered on his husband's peaceful expression, focusing on the steady rise and fall of his chest. Atsumu was his anaesthesia, his drug, the numbing agent to any pain. Atsumu was his light and life.

Kiyoomi slowly slide into bed next to him and for once in the last 5 weeks, he felt like everything was back to when they had first gotten married. Happy and peaceful, unable to see the rest of the world, allowing their souls mingle in the air as they held each other in the warmth of their love. Maybe, just maybe, this world wasn't so cruel after all...?
