Chapter 21

Aveliene's pov:

I could feel the rising tension in the atmosphere as both Dimitri and Vaughn stare at each other with intense gaze.
Unable to face this sudden change of moods, I decided to break the awkward silence.

"Do you both know eachother?",as the question slipped from my mouth both Dimitri and Vaughn turned towards me with the same intense look and I gulped. But soon Dimitri eyes went back to amusement while Vaughn's to his as usual ,expressionless.

"We have known each other since childhood, right Rodriguez?", Dimitri said in a slight teasing tone. While glancing at Vaughn.

"We just went to the same school and are now business acquaintances nothing more", Vaughn said in a bored tone without even looking at Dimitri.

"Oh" I replied as unable to say further.

"By the way, thanks for inviting me Vaughn" Dimitri said still amusement fills in his eyes with a mocking tone.

"Don't think it will change anything between us, Martinez. Take it as a business courtesy", Vaughn replied in bored tone while looking here and there.

Dimitri frowned but then quickly changed his mood and smiled.

"Well I was talking to your wife, you are lucky she is so beautiful" Dimitri said and I blushed and glanced at Vaughn for his reaction.

"Well you know, I always gets the best that's why I am at the top on success ladder unlike some people" Vaughn said in a prideful mocking tone while giving emphasis on some.

Dimitri glared at him but then thought better and smiled.

"By the way how do you both know eachother?" Vaughn asked looking at me with a raised eyebrow.

"We just met at Ash- ,I mean my friend's party who is also Dimitri's cousin." I said trying to sound calm under Vaughn's intense gaze.

He stared at me for a while then nodded. I turned towards Dimitri and spoke-

"So how long are you going to stay here this time?" I asked while remembering his business trips.

"Well, usually I stay a week but this time I am thinking to stay longer." Dimitri said in mocking tone while looking at me then to Vaughn.

Vaughn clenched his fists. Instantly Dimitri's phone rang.

"Sorry, I have to take this, by the way Congratulations to you both" He said while smirking.
He then looked at me and spoke.
"See you soon ,Aveliene" , to which I nodded and he left.

I turned and looked at Vaughn who was still clenching his fist. Looking in the direction where Dimitri went.
What's with his sudden change moods? I wonder.

He noticed my stare and looked at me.

"Do you know he is my biggest business rival." He paused and took a deep breath trying to calm himself and spoke again "You are not going to meet him again, he is the last person I want you to hang out with. He is a bad news.",he said in stern and angery tone.

"Bu-but why? He seems a nice guy?" I said while stuttering. Why am I stuttering?

"Don't get into his charms. His sugar coated talks are just his perks of being a playboy. You can get hurt. So you will stay away from him." He said. But I was confused, do he cares about me.

As if reading my thoughts he spoke-"Don't be delusional that I care about you. I just don't want you to be hurt by him. Because only I can do that." He said in threatening tone which caused shivers pass down my spine.
