Socks POV

Socks was nervous. He had been with Meme for around 3 years, and he still didn't get how they had ended up together. I mean, Meme was the best. He was funny, sweet, caring, handsome, he could go on for ages. He was amazing. He tapped his foot, waiting for Meme to pick him up. He wondered what he had planned. Tonight was going to be special...

Meme POV

Meme straightened his tie and headed out the door, going to pick up Socks. They were going to have a picnic in this really cool field with a waterfall. He glanced at his watch. He was right on time. He kept driving, and he was almost at Socks' house. He glanced at the time again, not noticing the drunk driver swerving towards him.

Socks POV

What was Meme doing? He was almost 20 minutes late! He didn't live that far away. His phone began to ring. He picked it up and saw that it was Meme. He sighed in relief and picked it up. There had to be a logical explanation as to why he wasn't there yet. He answered.

"Are you Socks?" asked a feminine voice on the other end of the line. He immediately got the feeling that something was wrong.

"Y-yes...who is this?" He replied nervously. He knew something was wrong, he could feel it. He was shaken out of his trance by the voice.

"I'm sorry to inform you that Meme was hit by a drunk driver and is currently in a coma at the hospital." The phone slipped out of his hand. An accident? How was that possible? The lady had said that it was a drunk driver. Socks wondered what had happened to them, then realized he didn't really care. They had hurt Meme. He realized his phone was still on the ground. He picked it up and saw that the girl had hung up. He went around his house in a daze, collecting stuff he thought he might need. He ended up with: A buttload of candy, his phone, a blanket, a change of clothes(very mismatched), and a small velvet box. He ran out of the house and tried to focus. It wouldn't help Meme if he got hurt too. He drove to the hospital and ran inside. He saw the receptionist, who glanced up when he rushed in.

"Name?" she asked, sounding bored.

"Socks," When she heard his name she immediately softened.

"Ok, honey, room 194," He raced into the wing she was talking about and counted room numbers. 190, 192,193,194! He hesitated before heading in, a little nervous about what lay inside. When he entered, it was like a whole other world. The heart monitor beeped in the background and all of the other machines whirred, all blending into a monotone when Socks saw Meme. He didn't look too hurt, just a couple of scratches and bruises here and there. He walked into the room, dazed. He set his stuff down on the chair and sat on the edge of the bed. He stroked his hair until a doctor walked in with a grim face. Socks got up gently, as not to hurt Meme, and faced the doctor. The doctor introduced himself as Dr. Laff and gravely informed Socks that they didn't think that Meme was going to wake up. Socks dropped onto the floor, refusing to acknowledge that Meme, the love of his life, was going to die because of a stupid drunk driver. Dr. Laff started to walk out, but Socks gathered himself enough to ask,

"How long?" Dr. Laff turned around and informed him that he had as long as he needed, it was his choice, and that they couldn't keep him there forever. Socks sat on the bed and debated about what to do. He finally concluded that he would unplug him, he didn't deserve to be in pain for his selfish reasons, but he had to do something first. The doctors had said that Meme could still hear him, so he pulled out the little velvet box that he'd brought and got down on one knee. He took a deep breath and began.

"Meme, when I first met you, I never imagined that we would end up together. You seemed way out of my league. You are funny, smart, handsome, and the greatest person I've ever met. I was going to do this on our date but...will you marry me?" He looked at Meme, not expecting a reaction. He turned away and went to notify Dr. Laff that it was time when he saw most of the doctors and nurses pointing behind him, looking shocked. He spun and saw Meme slowly nodding his head. He was by his side in a second, gripping his hand.
"Meme?" He asked hesitantly. Meme looked towards him and said,

"Sorry, I think I missed our date," Socks laughed. Of course he was already joking around. He slid the ring onto Meme's finger and gave him a soft kiss on the cheek. He felt a tap on his shoulder and saw Dr. Laff behind him and suddenly Meme was being released and they were home again. The only condition for the release was that Socks had to be with him at all times so that Meme didn't hurt himself more. They let all of their friends know that Meme had made it, and they all congratulated them on getting married. They began planning their wedding as soon as Meme felt like it, and when the day of the wedding came, it was the best day of their lives.
