Endeavor Is Fucked

As they walked together to the nearby open-air market, Izuku took in the pleasant afternoon weather. It was surprisingly warm for a spring day in Japan. They were about a minute away from the market when things started to get odd.

He breathed in the scent of the clear air, only to cough a little at the sudden lungful of smoke he inhaled.

His eyes automatically snapped towards his mother, who was evidently startled at the sudden shift in the air as well.

"You think it's a villain or something?" She asked, and he nodded his head.

"Probably. It's definitely happening near the market. We should be careful." he said, and his mother nodded. Normally, it was okay to be near villain fights as long as a hero was at the scene. They didn't expect this to be any different.

As they turned the corner and the market came into view, they were met with a sight that would surely haunt their worst nightmares. Where once a peaceful and bustling market had sat along the street sidewalks, there were now only overturned tables, flaming tents, and unconscious people littered in the streets, all smothered in a thick layer of grey smoke and scattered rubble. The air smelled of blood and fire, and he could hear people screaming in the distance. It made Izuku nauseous. There wasn't a hero around that they could see. There were sirens wailing off in the distance.

However, His mother was a nurse and used to be a paramedic. He turned to her and she looked at him with those determined green eyes, while tying her long green hair into a ponytail. He knew they had to help these people. Izuku only knew basic emergency medical aid, but he could still help.

"Alright, Honey. Here's what we're going to do. Direct pressure with bandages is the initial protocol." She reached into the bag that she always carried with her and tossed him a large roll of medical-grade bandages. She continued speaking hurriedly.

"Tourniquets should be applied to the extremities when required due to life-threatening arterial bleeding. Remember to tighten the windlass component properly." She rattled off to him instinctually. He got the gist, and then they were on the move.

"If you see anyone who appears to have broken bones, wait for me before moving them. We're going to utilize save and run tactics. We're all still in the danger zone." She said.

"Okay." He said, and then "I can do that." He assured her. Internally, he was trying not to panic. He was scared of whoever had done this. There was so much destruction in one area.

The first person he came to was a middle-aged man lying awkwardly over the sidewalk curb and draped over the street. There was a large laceration on his forehead that was bleeding heavily.
He rolled the bandages tightly around his head and picked the man up to take him back to where his mother was tending to an unconscious woman. A teenage boy sat up against the wall next to both of them, looking dazed and crying silently. His mother and the injured civilians were in a somewhat sheltered area against a building, and she had already cleared the ground of broken glass. As he deposited the man down in an open area next to his mother, she quickly assessed his damage.

"Good Job, sweety. Those bandages look nice. I heard someone crying for help back over by the fruit stand." She nodded towards a broken and slightly flaming tent about fifty feet away.

"On it. The police should be here in any minute." He called to her over his shoulder as he made his way to the now dilapidated fruit stand. The sirens were close.

Something roared in the distance.

He didn't realize that the local news stations had beaten the police and were getting out of their vans with their equipment to film the next few moments.

He ran towards the stand as fast as his bruised ribs would allow him to. As he neared, he heard the voice his mom told him about.

There was a little girl, probably no older than four, pinned underneath a heavy wooden slab that had broken off the stand. She had a small cut on her forehead that was bleeding down into her wide silver eyes. Her long, silver hair was tangled, and it whipped around her head as she turned her head and spotted him running towards her.

He kneeled by her side quickly and gave her a wide smile as he freed her from underneath the heavy sign.

"Hey, it's okay now. You don't have to be scared anymore," he said, reassuring her. She looked at him in awe as he picked her up and held her to him with his broken arm.

"We're going to have to move fast, so make sure to hold on tight. I want to get you back to your parents as fast as possible." He said, and she nodded and wrapped her arms around his neck.

As he stood up to begin running back to their safe station with the girl clinging to him, a crash rocked the street, and Izuku swore he felt the ground shake as he skidded to a halt.

When he felt the little girl shake in his arms and begin to scream, he knew it was nothing good. He whipped his head back to see what it was, and honestly, he wished he hadn't.

There, slowly emerging from a cloud of dust not one hundred and fifty feet away, was a gigantic villain who looked more like a monster than a human. He had the head of a bull and must have stood at least twelve feet tall. On top of that, he appeared to have been seriously burned in multiple places over his body.

The minotaur charged with a furious roar that he felt in his bones. Izuku ran faster than he ever had in his life. He had an innocent life in his hands that he couldn't fail. It just wasn't an option.

The next moment would go down in Japan's history as one of the most iconic images of the Musutafu Market terror attack.

Izuku knew he couldn't outrun the villain. It was already gaining on them. He would need to think quickly.

Come on, come on, think!

There!!

He spotted a sharp piece of broken rebar that had been freed from the concrete. The shape reminded him of a sword, which brought on his next idea. Sometimes, Edgeshot would use his sharp body to cut the legs of fast opponents. If you couldn't defeat a villain, your next best bet was to slow them down enough to save another life.

With the little girl still in his arms, Izuku dove down for the rebar, grasped it tightly in his good hand, and swung the sharp object out in a wide arc from his crouched position. He felt a slight resistance from the heavily muscled leg of the villain, but the makeshift blade tore through shortly after. The Minotaur let out a bellow and was sent crashing to the ground as a vital tendon in its leg was rendered useless.

The live broadcast captured everything. All around Japan, families at home cheered on the broken boy from their living rooms.

However, just before the villain was sent to the ground, Endeavor had appeared around the corner and was winding up to release a massive fireball. He was angry. He was frustrated that this villain was taking too long to capture.

It was making him look weak.

So, he got careless.

He didn't see the boy about to strike the villain's leg. And he didn't see the makeshift medical station blocked out by the Minotaur's massive frame.

That error would haunt him for the rest of his life.

Izuku forgot how to breathe when a massive fireball whooshed through the air over his head in slow motion. He saw Endeavor's eyes widen as they shifted from him, to somewhere behind him.

His heart dropped in his chest as he turned his head to track the pathway that the powerful flames were taking.

No, please.

Not her.

All he could do was watch from his kneeling position on the ground as his mother was consumed by the violent flames.

He did not get a goodbye.

The dam inside him broke, and he saw blackness.
