"Oh hey, you're finally awake." Izuku heard a young, tired voice speak. "You gave everyone quite a scare when you collapsed on live television." The voice continued to speak. Izuku was feeling a little bit of a disconnect from his body, which must have been an effect of his quirk. He'd have to write that down. His body felt fuzzy.
"Hey, yoo-hoo, green bean. You okay?" The voice asked. Izuku's response was immediate and involuntary.
"Physically, no. Mentally? Absolutely not." He said, his tone sarcastic. He was still staring down at his hands. He wiggled his fingers and snorted. Maybe they had him on some drugs as well.
"Jeez, what do they have you on? I might need to ask for some of that for myself." The boy said, and Izuku finally looked up. His head flopped a little with the motion. When he spotted the other occupant in the room, his heart felt like it stopped. In the distance, he vaguely recognized the sound of his heart monitor speeding up. Sitting in the corner of his room was a boy his age with wild lavender hair and tired eyes. And gods bless Izuku's questioning heart, he was hot.
Aaaaand he'd said that out loud apparently if the boy's snort of laughter was anything to go by. Even that was cute. Wow, he needed to get a hold of himself. Whatever drug he was on was some dangerous shit.
The door to his room opened, and Detective Tsukauchi stepped in along with a disheveled man he did not recognize. What's with the detective and hanging out with homeless guys? He was able to keep that thought to himself this time.
"Hello, Midoriya. I'm sorry that we only meet after something bad happens. I'm glad to see you're awake though." The detective spoke. Izuku grunted in response and flicked his gaze over to the raven-haired man.
"Who the hell is that guy?" Izuku asked, and Tsukauchi was reminded of the first time they met. The boy's lack of tact obviously caught the other man off guard. Izuku saw his eye twitch in annoyance.
"I'm the Pro Hero Eraserhead. You can call me Aizawa." The man, Aizawa, said.
"Oh, cool." The boy deadpanned. "You were one of my favorite heroes," Izuku said. The use of past tense confused the hero. Also, he was a little concerned that this teenager knew of him. No one knew who he was. Secrecy was part of the job.
"I was?" he asked.
"Yeah. Not sure if I still believe in heroes anymore." He said and looked out the window. He missed the look shared between the other occupants of the room.
"What's going to happen to me? Why are you here?" He asked, still looking away. The pain medicine seemed to be making him more loose-lipped.
"We're here to discuss that. Considering the fact that you had an unofficial hero debut that all of Japan saw on live television, your living situation needs to be thought out carefully. Normally, you'd go into foster care until your eighteenth birthday, however, citizens of Japan now recognize you as a hero in training. Naturally, this might put a target on your back by less savory types. We've decided it would be best to put you under the care of a Pro Hero, in this case, Eraserhead."
Normally, Izuku would have been excited. These weren't normal times. Apparently, the two adults in the room expected more of a reaction, so Izuku decided to reassure them.
"Sorry, I'm not responding to the situation with the appropriate levels of surprise or with the amount of energy you were expecting. I just watched my mom die, and I'm also really hungry." He stated emotionlessly.
The purple-haired boy used that moment to excuse himself.
"I'll go grab you something from the vending machine. Have a preference?" He asked, halfway out the door.
