Chapter Two:

The next morning was the first day of our Sophomore year. Stephanie was still missing and the only person I've really stayed in contact with over the last week was Kamrin. We had been staying at each other's houses that week just to make sure nothing would happen to the other.

As I was getting ready for school, kind of in a daze, Kamrin looks at me.

"Are you still wondering who did it?" Kamrin asks.

"Yeah, I just don't know who would do that. I know everybody hated her and all but still."

"I've been wondering about that too but, we shouldn't worry about it too much because after all it is our first day back and I bet we're going to have a lot more things to worry about at school."

"That's true, and hopefully the rest of the group will be willing to talk with us again."

"Agreed."

We finish getting ready for school and then we get in Kamrin's car and drive to Battle Ground High School. The car ride is fairly quiet, just the music on the radio is blaring in the background.

And as I glance over at a lamp post I see that it has a flyer on it. I look closer and I realize that it's a missing person flyer.

Stephanie's missing person flyer.

I look away from it for a moment to get the thought of her being kidnapped out of my head and right as I do, the stop light turns green and we into the high school parking lot.

Kamrin and I gather our things and head into the school. As we find our lockers, which are conveniently right next to each other, Ronnie and Marcus approach us.

"Hey." Ronnie and Marcus say at the same time.

"Hey." Kamrin and I say.

Ronnie leans against one of the lockers and we all stare at each other in silence for a bit until Marcus finally breaks the silence.

"So...we're not going to talk about the fact that the 'All Mighty Bitch, Queen Bee of Battle Ground High School" had now spontaneously disappeared. I can't be the only one that thinks that's weird, even for her."

"I agree with you." I say. "She does like to get attention from anyone for that matter but, this seems like a bit much. I think something might have happened to her, but I'm not sure what."

"I think she's just being dramatic." Ronnie says. "She's probably just trying to get us to feel sorry for her ass and then she's going to come out of the blue. Pretending none of this happened."

We all sit in silence for a bit more then Ronnie breaks the silence.

"Look, I know that none of us have talked to each other about what happened but I think that we should just forget about it for the rest of the day at least and, go hangout at the river after school."

"That actually sounds like a good idea Ron." Kamrin chimes in. "What do you think Lily?"

I take a moment to think before I respond.

"Yeah, that does sound like a good idea, that'll give us time for all of us to hangout again and process what is going on."

"Alright, everyone meet at the river after school." Marcus says relived.

Everyone agrees.

"Okay, sounds good." I say with a smile and as I turn to walk to my class I run into none other than Riley Linsdale.

"Are you guys planning on going to the river after school?" Riley asks inquisitively.

"Uh yeah would you want to go?" I say with instant regret. "I can talk to everyone to see what time we should all be down there, if you want."

She looks at me for a moment and then with a disapproving look.

"No, you don't have to do that I was just wondering and besides, I have plans anyways but you guys have fun!"

And with a sarcastic grin on her face, she turns and heads to her class.

I head to my class and sit down. I start to unpack some of my text books when Stacy rushes into class and sits down right next to me.

"Hey!" She says "How was your summer?"

"It was pretty good for the most part, well until you know Steph went missing."

"Yeah." She replied. "I wonder what happened? It's odd that she just disappeared."

The bell rings and it's only time for second period. I'm already exhausted but I keep going through the day because in the end, we're trying to get things to go back to normal, well somewhat.

Kamrin walks over to me and opens her lock and I open.

"I swear, can today just be over like can we just skip the rest of school and go straight to the river."

"I know I wish we could but, we need to know how we're to get through the school year." I tell her.

"Your right, I'll see you after class."

"Okay, I'll see you later." I replied.

After school finally ended, Kamrin and I gathered our things and head to Kamrin's car.

She starts to drive out of the parking lot and I see the missing person flyer for Stephanie.

"Hey, pull over for a sec I need to grab something." I tell Kamrin.

I get out of the car and walk over to the lamp post and I rip the flyer off and take it with me to Kamrin's car and open the door and Kamrin looks at me with surprise.

"Why did you grab that?" She asked.

"I was going to show the others at the river." I replied. "You know just to see if they'd seen it."

"That makes sense. Do you think her parents put those signs up or the police?" She wondered.

"I'm not sure, the police might have made the signs and her parents could've put them up."

"Yeah, that's true."

Kamrin pulls out of the parking lot and starts heading toward my house. She turns on the radio and starts playing Driver's License By Olivia Rodrigo and at first, we're just listening to the music and everything is going well. Until the song ends and people on the radio start to talk about Stephanie's case.

We both look at each other as the announcer speaks.

"Stephanie Martin at age 15 has gone missing and police are on the search for her. The tracker her parents placed on her phone says that her last known whereabouts are located in Yacolt, Washington...."

And as the announcer continues, I start to wonder if Stephanie knew her kidnapper and what her would do next? Would they be coming for one of us?
