"Hnng..." You groaned, being welcomed by sunlight. "What time is it..."

The clock on the wall showed that it was 6:30.

Normally you would have loved to sleep in like Ava, but you had a day filled with jobs. Unlike Ava.

--

"Good thing about Starbucks is that you can literally get a coffee and start your shift right away," you mumbled, sipping your morning coffee while looking outside at the business people going to their jobs.

You worked at a Starbucks because, well, you liked the charm that small coffee shops had. Calm, cozy, and yet somehow busy.

"Well, busy morning hour about to start," You said, standing up and stretching, before going behind the counter to start you shift.

--

"Here is your salted caramel mocha with extra cream and caramel with an almondmilk honey flat white." She said, handing the orders over. "Thank you, come again!"

A/N: I just googled Starbucks orders don't judge me ok-

You were on your normal shift, taking orders as usual. Thankfully the boss let you go for one of the days you missed, so you only had to make up the hours for one shift. Which you could cover in one day.

"Hey, it's time for your break!!" One of the other employees called out from the back.

"Ok, just gimme a sec!" You said, before cleaning up the few spills. "Thanks, Avery."

Avery is your college friend. You two met in your second year of college when Avery was still in his first. The only difference is that you dropped out, after having a money problem in your household.

A/N: I should probably clear up that you are 27 and Avery is 25 and Ava is 26. And do whatever you want with the daemos's age cause I have no idea-

He chuckled. "No problem! I'm glad that you're able to move back." He tilted his head. "How'd you even manage to get here, I thought you worked every single day to just survive?"

You shrugged. "I was saving up money for emergencies, but Ava asked me to move in with her, and boom here I am."

"Ohhh." He said, nodding. "Well, I better get to the counter before I get yelled at. Nice to see you again."

You nodded. "You too."

You walked into the break room and plopped down on one of the chairs. "Ava should be awake by now. I mean, that is if she actually wants a day job or something." You said, pulling your phone out.

...

...

...

Is she really sleeping at this time?

...

...

She most definitely is-

"Hello-"

"GIVE ME BACK THE MAGICAL SLAB!!!!" Someone shouted from the other line.

"LEIF CALM DOWN!!!"

my poor ears...

"The magic slab appears to be able to communicate." You recognized the voice as Rhys.

"....ok?" She said, checking if she could still hear from her right ear. Thankfully, she still could.

"What's with all the screaming?" You heard Ava's voice in the background.

"Rhys, can you give the phone- I mean magic slab over to Ava?" You asked, before hearing the phone switch hands. "Ava I think I-"

ding.

"Hold up, notification," Ava said, followed by tapping sounds from the other line. "OH MY GOD!!!!!!!"

Well, there goes your right ear.

"50 FOLLOWERS ALREADY???" Ava screamed.

"Ah shit-" you heard from the front. "CAN SOMEONE LIKE FILL IN FOR ME FOR LIKE A MINUTE I KINDA SPILLED COFFEE ON ME!"

You chuckled. "You can go clean up!" She turned back to your phone. "Mind explaining the situation over there, before destroying my other good ear?"

Avery ran in the break room with a stained shirt, while you went to cover for him.

You managed to tuck your phone between your ear and your shoulder, while still taking orders.

"Oh yeah..." Ava chuckled. "Well, I was on a call with Lorelai and well... her friends said something along the lines of 'oh she's not gonna be able to get any followers or likes on social media' or something."

"So you took that bait-AH-shit... dropped some ice..." you said, your phone slowly slipping own between her ear and your shoulder.

"I mean yeah I guess I kinda fell into their trap, but like...I'm beating their ass currently so it's worth it."

You rolled your eyes. "Sure... See you after"

"Bye-" End of call.

--

'wearing bright shoes, walking down the shore
diving headfirst down to the ocean floor'

You were walking home while swaying a bit to the music.

"Steve, the shortcut is terrible!!" someone screeched.

huh, that voice sounds familiar.

"The movie's going to start soon!"

You took one of your earphones out while looking to where the voice came from.

Lorelai's 'friends'...of course...

Unlike Ava, you actually had a relatively ok relationship with them, even though you never really agreed to join their clique. Mostly due to the fact that you were on the same sports team as Kristen.

"OTHER HUMA-" A voice yelled, which startled you, including the clique.

You were looking around, while still walking towards home. Until getting pulled into a bush.

"WHA-" You said before a hand covered your mouth.

"What the fuck Leif?!" Ava whisper-shouted.

Leif shrugged as he let go.

You tried to cover up that she was shaken. "So...what are you doing-"

"Who are they?" Leif interrupted, asking Ava.

Well then, go ahead and ignore me I guess.

Ava sighed. "Powerful humans." You resisted the urge to laugh. Even though it was pretty clear she was being serious, you were just kinda done with this whole 'sorcerer' act. "They prey on your emotions and self-esteem" Besides, if you dare to show good, especially for first impressions, then people will start expecting good from you.

"Well, let's go home now," Ava said, snapping out of her haze. "C'mon, let's go."

You nodded, as Leif picked up Ava and ran away.

juuuuust wait

until running back to pick you up also, and running home again.
