I was still following the cat, so we started to get into the dark forest. The trees were just beginning to lose their color, gradually moving from a green, more or less deep depending on the trees, to orange and yellow. The drill was going to catch fire in a few weeks. I was careful not to slip on the floor covered with dead leaves, or to stumble on a tree root.

After what seemed to me to be a little less than an hour, half an hour can be Sunshine is stop and I did the same, I put my hands on my knees to catch my breath. Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sporty but I've never had much stamina. Ironic isn't it! n raising my head, I saw the little cat assailed while watching, waiting for me to catch my breath 'how does he not get tired!?' I thought to myself as I got up. My breathing was always a little fast but steady enough to allow me to move forward without collapsing after a few meters, deprived of oxygen. The cat gets back on its four pates and, to my surprise, he does not start running again but to walk and bypassed a large oak tree that was just beginning to take on its autumn color. He passed through a bush and that's when I heard the barking of a dog, which was not to be at its best.

I too bypassed the large tree with a large trunk, and saw a dog lying on the ground. It was a golden retriever lying on the floor of the forest, it had all ruffled fur and soiled by dried earth. But what struck me the most was a cut he had on his hind leg, I was trying to see if it was deep or not. It was at this point that Sunshine meowed, he was sitting near the dog's head along, so he began to rub his head against his own, purring, as if to reassure him. At the same time, the dog looked extremely tense, and I didn't help by breaking a branch the moment I approached them. Their heads turned in my direction immediately, ears attentive to the sound I had just made. Seeing me, the dog stiffens even more than before, he starts to agitate and growl, clearly to tell me not to approach him. Surprised a little by his reaction, I recoiled, impressed 'I clearly do not want to get bitten; I will keep my distances eh...' I thought when I was staring at the teeth that the dog was showing me. At the same time, I can understand his reaction, if I were hurt and I saw someone coming like that I would panic a little.

Sunshine who was relaxed by the time he laid his eyes on less was sitting close to the dog at the level of his head. He began rubbing his head against that of his friend lying on the ground purring to reassure him. In all honesty, I wouldn't even be surprised if he started talking and saying, "don't worry, it's going to happen I know it". His actions were working because the dog stopped fidgeting and trying to escape, 'ouf' I thought, I had frankly little that he aggravated his wound on his leg. However, he was still very suspicious, kept his head high and his eyes did not let go of me watching me attentively. Our eyes crossed and I saw at that moment all the fear and stress of the dog, but I also saw a lot of tenderness in his eyes. Empathetic in nature, I felt my eyes begin to become wet, I was upset by the look of this animal.

I broke the eye contact I had with him when I felt something rubbed against my leg. As I lowered my head, I saw the little cat rubbing his body purring. I crouched down to start stroking him by saying in a very calm voice , "That's your friend, right? It's that you were looking for when you disappeared into the wild, huh? I looked up to watch the dog lying in front of us watching us. "Don't worry buddy, you see I'm not mean. Your friend came to pick me up, I'm not going to hurt you, I just want to help you, okay? I said to him with a little smile on his lips. "My name is (y/n)" 'I don't know why I introduce myself but hey, you have to be polite, right?' I thought, always looking at the dog to anticipate what he was going to do. Since he was not showing his fangs and he had more relaxed, I began to move gently towards him, being careful not to make any sudden movement. He was always watching me very attentively, I could feel his look piercing my eyes, as if trying to guess what I was going to do now, He still seemed surprised to see me advanced so much of him.

I felt Sunshine pushing myself by trotting to sit next to his friend as if to tell him that everything is going to be fine. Once at his level, I crouched gently, being careful to leave a small distance between him and me so as not to oppress him. Seeing that he did not try to run away when I saw me approaching, as calmly as possible, I began to reach out my arm to present my hand. The dog remained hesitant when he saw me being so close to him, but after a moment he walked towards me just as slowly. I felt his warm breath on the back of my hand and his rapid breathing, he was trying to feel me. 'Do I have a confidence-building smell?' I thought while watching the dog, but obviously yes because he relaxed as he took my smell. He was not as stuck as before; I could see the muscles of his paws and ears relax and the panic in his eyes fu now replaced by curiosity.

"But what happened to you, my boy?" I asked him in a soft voice, without waiting for a reply from him. I kept watching him analyze me, without moving my hand, I don't want to frighten him as I begin to gain his trust. I let my eyes slide again towards his hurting leg to inspect him a little more since I was closer. The blood seemed to clot and his polishes all tangled because of the dried blood , it had begun to heal. But I can't leave it like that in the forest, an animal could attack it and its wound could get worse or get infected. I'm not a veterinarian but I could at least stare at his wound and give him food and drink. "I can't leave you here alone, we have to do something for your leg" I say, always having our eyes fixed on his wound. The dog looked attentive to the thought that I was saying 'yet another one who will answer me' I said to myself at the time before a little squeak interrupted me in my thoughts. Oh, yes, he says, I didn't think I was that surprised. "You think you can let me carry you to my house, don't you? I promise I'll take care of your injury; it'll be better after that. I said in a calm tone, "Your friend will be there with you don't worry".

He hesitated after I asked him if I could carry him, which understands, but the little cat was still there and licked his cheek gently while purring, to reassure him. After being sure that he was relaxed and calm, I approached him a little more so that he could lift him up, but he put his ears back by growling and showing me his teeth. "Don't worry ok, I'm not going to hurt you I swear" I told him hoping to calm him down a little. Sunshine continued to reassure him and when I saw his ears go back to normal, I got closer again this time, I was able to slip my hands under his body to lift him. Once I was sure I had a good grip I pushed into my legs and managed to take him off the ground. Even though it was heavy, I still found him skinny, I could feel his ribs against my arms, 'how long he hasn't had a normal meal that one' I wondered. Once I was fully up, I tried to place him in my arms, avoiding moving his injured leg too much, but he yelped a little. I kept apologizing until I got to find a relatively comfortable position for him. I began to walk slowly towards my house, slowed down by the weight of the animal.

"Well... I'm going to have to catch up with today's classes, great."
