Ella stood outside her apartment door as she fished her key from her purse. So far, it had been a pretty uneventful day for the forensic scientist. It was so easy to forget the celestial craziness happening in the
background. She would sometimes forget any of it was even real, and just think that it was all in her imagination. But every now and again, this strange new reality she now lived in would come back without warning and smack her in the face.
Ella jumped up and shrieked when she opened her front door. "SANTA MIERDA!" Ella exclaimed as she placed a hand over her too fast beating heart as she tried to calm herself.
"What?" Rae-Rae asked from her spot on the blue beanbag chair in the living room as she gently pat Margeret's feathers, who was sleeping contently upon the angel of death's lap.
"Jeez, Rae-Rae, you scared the crap out of me!" Ella said irritably. She was so surprised by the angel, that she forgot to lock her front door. She then glanced at Margeret's peaceful expression.
"Traitor.." Ella muttered under her breath. Margeret hated sleeping on Ella's lap. Whenever Ella attempted to give the chicken physical affection, she'd get her hands pecked and bloody. It was more than a little irritating to see how much her pet was taking up with someone she was currently angry with.
"What exactly are you doing here, Rae-Rae?" Ella asked as she made her way to the kitchen to check if she had any leftovers for dinner. She wasn't in the mood to cook that night. "I wanted to talk to you, I hate it when you're mad at me." Rae-Rae answered from her spot on the beanbag chair. Ella scoffed as she opened the fridge. "Yeah, well, you should've thought about that before you lied to me throughout the majority of my life."
"Well, I never meant for you to see me! It was an accident. And I panicked!" Rae-Rae defended. "And in my defense, which one sounds crazier? Me being the literal angel of death, or me being a ghost?"
Ella slammed the fridge door a little harder than necessary when she found nothing, and gave the angel her full attention. "And which one is the truth?"
Rae-Rae bit her lip guiltily as she pat the chicken. "Good point." She admitted.
"But also in my defense, Lucifer, Maze, and Amenadiel have also kept their true identities secret!" Rae-Rae tried to point out."Well, I'd hardly say that Lucifer and Maze were keeping their identities secret." Ella said. She had lost count years ago of how many times Lucifer has told her that he was the devil. "None of them have ever lied to me, Rae-Rae. And even if they did, it didn't effect my life the way it did when you lied to me!"
Rae-Rae cringed. "Again, good point."
Ella shook her head and sighed. There was so much going on all in such a short period of time, and it was becoming more and more difficult to come to terms with everything, and figure out her feelings regarding it all. Ella honestly just felt tired at this point. She kept telling everyone that she was fine with being a celestial insider, and most of her was. But it still felt like her world had exploded, and she now had to figure out how to fit the pieces back together.
It was a more confusing puzzle than the shattered champagne flute she once had to put back together for a case.
"Look, Ella, I know that the way I handled things was stupid, and you have every right to be mad at me, but can you please let me explain my reasoning?" Rae-Rae practically begged. She wore her best puppy-dog eyes, and even made her bottom lip quiver. Ella tried to remain stoic and unyielding, but failed spectacularly. Ella sighed heavily, she was never good at holding grudges. She then sat down on the couch beside the beanbag chair, and offered her full attention.
