Chloe screamed as she fell and was engulfed in darkness. She shut her eyes closed and awaited the horrors that would soon consume her.
She couldn't know how long she had been falling. It could have ranged from seconds to hours. And somehow along the way, she suddenly didn't feel the restraints from the rope tied to her, as if it just vanished.
But then she hit the stone hard ground. Chloe wasn't in much pain, which she was grateful for. She placed a protective hand over her abdomen and opened her eyes. It took several moments for her eyes to adjust to the darkness, but once they did, she didn't exactly find what she was expecting.
Chloe was honestly expecting fire, screaming souls, and pure chaos. But what she got was a seemingly empty hallway-like area, made of grey stone that reached high towards the sky. There was no ceiling above Chloe, but she still couldn't see anything above the stone walls, only endless darkness.
Chloe sneezed as something drifted over her like snow. She inspected it and found it to be ash.
It was strangely silent in the hallway. She couldn't hear any screams or cries of help. Just silence. Eerie, suffocating silence.
Chloe also noticed doors along the stone walls. Some heavily chained, some not.
"Holy crap, I'm in Hell." Chloe muttered to herself as the situation really hit her. She was in Hell. The actual, Biblical Hell. The Hell that Lucifer has ruled for eons. Chloe felt herself hyperventilating. She was in Hell! Actual Hell!
What the ever-loving fuck was she supposed to do now?!
Chloe stayed on the ground, trying to get her breathing under control. She then coughed heavily when she accidentally breathed in some of the ash. She then forced herself to stand up. Her legs trembled below her, but Chloe couldn't stay on the ground, vulnerable to anyone who might find her. Chloe wasn't sure what the demons would do to her if they found Chloe. From what Chloe had figured, Maze was the gentlest and most emphatic of the demons, which was positively terrifying to think about if you knew Maze. And the only experience Chloe had with demons besides Maze was at the Mayan, which was less than stellar.
"Don't worry, baby," Chloe said softly, trying to comfort herself. "Either daddy or one of your aunts or uncles will come to get us soon, don't worry. We just have to wait until then."
Chloe kept her left hand on the wall beside her, and her right one pressed firmly against her stomach, and she began to walk down the hallway. Lucifer had explained the barest dynamics of Hell to her when she had asked, so she knew what lay behind the doors. In the chained ones were humans who were truly evil, and felt no guilt over their actions, and were being physically tortured by demons. And behind the unchained doors, were the humans who did feel guilt, and were torturing themselves.
Chloe wondered if she had walked by anyone she used to know, maybe a criminal she had put away, or even a friend or co-worker. It was distressing to think about, eternity of torture. Even if the recipient deserves it.
Chloe tried to shake her head of those thoughts, knowing that at the given moment, they would only do her more harm than good. She already had enough to be worried about without piling on to the mix.
Chloe felt naked without her gun, but also knew that human weapons probably wouldn't do much good against demons. Demons were still easier to kill then angels, but not by much. God, human weapons? Killing demons? What the fuck happened to Chloe's life? To think that she once thought that it couldn't get more exciting then putting criminals away or having a gun pointed in your face. Boy, did it suck to be wrong.
Something banged against the other side of one of the chained doors and it caused Chloe to instinctively jump and scream. She clamped a hand against her mouth and her eyes widened in fear. The banging stopped, and Chloe waited to see if whatever was on the other side had heard her. A horrible chill went down her spine when the doorknob began to slowly turn.
