I slowly opened my eyes to be greeted with darkness. Am I dead?
I looked around and realized that I was in my room but, the curtains were closed and the light was off.
I stood up and stretched, trying to remember how the hell I made it to my bed and what happened before I got home. Something didn't feel right at all.
I sat on the side of bed and tried to recall everything that happened today, if it was even the same day.
Then, it finally hit me.
A strangled cry left my body as the image of the boy slammed back into my body. The boy was ripped to shreds and there was such a big mess. Who would hurt someone to that extent.
My father slammed into my room and grabbed me.
"Hey, it's ok, shh just let the images go son. I see them too and I'm sorry you had to see that. Son just breath."
He tried to soothe me considering he saw that image that I've seen as well. It was so vivid and gruesome.
"Do you want me to erase the image from your head?" He asked with caution.
A rule my mother came up with when I was born was that my father could never tamper with my thoughts and memories unless decided by me.
"Please make the image go away dad." I pleaded with him and his eyes looked at me with so much pain and sorrow. He nodded his head and pressed his fingers to my forehead.
"I'm gonna erase the image but not the situation. It's gonna be as if you heard it on the news but with blurred pictures." He explained to me slowly. I nodded my head and soon the images of the boys body was all a blur.
He retracted his hand and soon I felt as is a weight was lifted off my body. The image was gone but the chill was still there.
We've been on this island for 400+ years and never have their been a murder. What superhuman was capable of hurting a child so young. What could that boy have possibly done.
"Emerson, your mother and I were talking and we decided that high school might be too dangerous for you. You don't have powers to really defend yourself and today was an eye opener that this island might be too dangerous for you." My dad tried to not offend me but it was a tad bit too late for that.
"You're trying to get rid of me?" I looked at him in disbelief.
"No son, I think you should be with the humans. Somewhere safe until your powers kick in or if they ever will. I'm sorry son but your life is me and your mothers number one priority. Your grandfather will accompany you to the human world tomorrow. He will be your caretaker until you can safely return to this island with powers." His tone of voice let me know that his word was final.
"I hate you."
I got up and ran down the stairs and out the house. My blood was boiling but I refuse to let a single tear roll down my cheek.
They think they can just get rid of me and act like I don't exist. It's not my fault I'm powerless. I never asked for this but yet I'm suffering for it.
I know this is my dad's decision alone. He's always been the hardest on me because of my powers being nonexistent. My mom and grandfather were always patient with me but my father. He's an impatient dick.
I found myself at an old playground that kids rarely play on and many teenagers go to smoke or do some type of illegal activity.
I sat on the dingy swing and tried to clear my head as the anger kept building the more I thought of him and his decision.
"I thought I'd find you here."
My grandfather sat next to me on the other swing. His abnormally large figure looked weird sitting on such a small swing.
"Sometimes taking a break can be a good start in activating your powers."
"Can you just stop with the bullshit and the lies grandpa. I know I'm gonna most likely be the first person born normal from super parents. I know I'm a disappointment, trust me I'm well aware of my failures and down falls."
A single tear dropped down my face but I refused to acknowledge it.
"People always use to underestimate me just like they're doing with you. I remember getting so enraged and filled with hatred that I lost all control and took out hundreds because I was upset. Emerson, let that rage drive you but do not let that rage control you like it did me. I have blood on my hands that I can never take back. Don't let what others say or do control you like it did me."
We sat in silence for a while and I thought about what he said. Maybe I do need a break from this world. Plus I'll have my grandfather there to guide me through my journey.
When I come back, I will have my powers and be stronger than any superhuman on this island, I swear it.
Me and my grandfather went back to my house to pack up our items for tomorrow and we got our story straight on where we were from along with all the other crap humans need to show they are citizens of wherever they are.
"Hey, we leave at midnight. Can't let the humans see us fly in or else they'll come up with some ridiculous Clark Kent jokes like they've done in the past." My Grandfather said while rolling his eyes at the Clark Kent part.
If only they knew that my grandfather was far from a hero.
Just like I'm less than a superhuman.
"Honey?"
I turned towards my mom who was dabbing her eyes.
"I love you and this was all your fathers idea. I just wanna let you know because I can't stand the idea of you being mad at me." She smiled at me trying to get me to not hate her.
"I'm not mad at you mom I'm more upset that dad traded me out like that." I sighed and leaned my head against my mother's shoulder.
It was a bit awkward due to her being slightly taller than me.
"I only agreed because of the murder today. I can't stop thinking of you being the body they found. At least my father will be able to train you accordingly for when danger is near. I can't lose you Emerson."
She put an arm around me and I tried my best to comfort her. I was her only child and I can understand not wanting to be separated from me.
This is the same lady who had a melt down in the parking lot of my preschool because I was 'growing up too fast'. She's always been there for me and I'll always love her.
My dad on the other hand is more like an older brother than an actual father. He only plays father when it comes down to my demise. 'A sorry excuse' as my gramps say.
"Hey kiddo, it's time to go." My grandfather yelled out to me and my mom.
She gave me a teary eyes smile and the biggest hug she could muster. I returned the favor with as much emotion I could muster up. I'm gonna miss her the most.
"We'll see you soon son." My dad came up to me for a hug but I ducked under and headed straight for my grandfather.
"I'll see you in hell pops and I love you mom."
My dad glared at me with distaste and my mom let out a curt giggle.
I grabbed my luggage and my grandfather grabbed the rest.
"On my back boy, and hold on tight. I heard the turbulence was pretty fucking horrible tonight." My grandfather laughed out.
"DAD! Watch your mouth around him." My mom glared at him and my grandfather just laughed at her as he took off into the sky from the backyard.
Humans, here we come.
