                               3 years later....

"Hey Emerson, aren't you leaving today." Natalie grabbed onto my book bag trying to get me to slow down.

"Yeah, I get to go home back to my family" I tried to sound cheerful but I really wasn't.

A year and a half ago, I got my powers. My grandfather haven't told my parents fully or even the elders under him. My powers aren't like anything he's seen before in 400+ years and he definitely doesn't think I should be exposed until he and I know how to control them.

Yeah,  I know what you're thinking.

"How'd he get his powers"

"What happened."

"It's been 3 years???"

Yeah you missed quite a bit but, allow me to do a quick recap. Trust me I'll try not to take up all your time.

"Grandpa, where did you put the fuel for the lawn mower." I yelled out but no reply came back.

Where the hell is this man at?

I dropped the lawnmower and angrily walked back to the house. I know that man can hear me, he had super hearing. He can hear a beetle move a rock over a mile away.

Right as I was about to turn the corner to the kitchen, I saw that my grandfather had the phone to his ear and a real distressed look on his face.

I stayed behind the wall and listened to the conversation he was having.

"Mason, I don't think keeping him here is a good idea. He's getting stronger by the second, I can almost feel it. No he doesn't have his powers yet but there is something strong about him and it's making me feel uneasy."

The anger I was feeling kept building and I tried to stay calm so I can hear the rest of the conversation.

"Whether he is aware or not, his strength is growing. When we first got here that lawn mowed was too heavy for him to barely push but now he's wielding that thing like it's a piece of paper."

I didn't notice how easy it was for me to pick up the lawnmower after a while. I just pushed it off as me getting use to doing chores around the house. Almost like conditioning.

"He's growing stronger and whatever he is, he's gonna be stronger than me or any other being on this planet. The aura around him is changing, we should have stayed on the island. We shouldn't be among the humans when he gets his powers. What if he ends up like me."

Now that one stung. He really thinks I'm gonna blow up and kill a bunch of humans, like him. Does everyone think that lowly of me. Why does everyone treat me like the damn underdog. With or without powers I'll always be a problem to them.

"Okay, we'll stay here until his powers are fully in tow. Treat Lena well and we'll see her soon."

Of course. He's talking to my father. That prick always has to be in control. His way or no way. I hate him. I'm tired of everyone telling me what to do. I'm tired of being weak. I'm tired of being protected.

My body felt extremely hot and I couldn't stop myself from shaking. The anger in me was too great. I never felt so angry before and frustrated.

"Emerson, calm down."

I looked in the direction of the voice to see my grandfather with his hand out slowly walking towards me, like I was some animal. Some type of scary monster.
