Callie P.O.VThe next day of school is just as bad as the last, except all the pictures of Jay and I have been removed as well as the crass condoms on my locker. But even so, I had to deal with countless incidents of harassment throughout the day, the only thing that made it moderately okay was that I knew that MJ was coming over after decathlon.
We have a good practice, and afterwards the instructor pulls me aside, "Miss Stark, we are planning a trip for the try outs for Decathlon Provincials this spring. Would you be able to have a parent come as a chaperone? You're an excellent member of our team and I'd love to have you on our first string. Also we really need a few chaperones."
I blush slightly, knowing why he's asking, but I appreciate that he chose to do it privately. "Yeah, I'll ask my Dad." I shrug.
"Thank you Callie, have a good day!"
"You too!" I wave to him and jog over to meet MJ.
"Ready?" She gives me a closed lip smile.
"Yep, let's go!" I take her hand and her eyes widen in surprise but she doesn't pull her hand away, instead she holds on tight and follows me out the front steps to where the chauffeur's car is waiting. "Oh, it's Happy!"
I skip down the steps and hug Happy who is standing by the trunk, "hey kid, have a good day at school?" He asks, kissing my temple.
"It was school," I shrug, not exactly lying. "This is MJ."
"Nice to meet you," he says, taking our bags and shutting them into the trunk.
"This is so boss," my friend whispers, climbing into the car behind me.
"Do you guys want to drive through for some dinner?" Happy calls, glancing at us through the mirror.
"Uh, sure? Where's Dad?"
"He got called away for work, he'll be back for your birthday Friday." I feel a stab of unexpected disappointment. "But everyone else will be home tonight, just Dad got called away for business."
"It's your birthday this weekend?" MJ gasps, smacking my arm, "why didn't you tell us?"
"It didn't feel important," I shrug, feeling my face flush. The truth is that I've never had friends to tell about my birthday so I didn't even think of it, but I don't feel like she needs to know that.
"Well it is important! You only turn 15 once!"
"I agree with MJ," Happy chuckles.
"See?" She points at Happy with satisfaction, "Are you having a party?"
I shake my head, "not with friends, at-least, I haven't planned one yet."
"Well, we're going to plan you one." She nods sincerely and I shrug in agreement.
After we've gotten our food Happy drives us home, MJ releases a soft gasp as we pull onto the property, "is this your house?"
"Just that small part on the left, I'm not really allowed in the training grounds or the business areas."
"Ah okay, that makes more sense."
She follows me into the house and as we're heading to my room Happy calls after us that he'll just be in the kitchen. I give him a thumbs up and then shut us into my bedroom with a sigh of relief.
She spends a few minutes looking around my room commenting on the decor and then comes to sit beside me on the couch.
"So, did you and Peter get back together?" MJ asks, opening her takeout bag and withdrawing her hamburger.
