Moments later, Charlie was sat at his desk, sipping at a hot chocolate Katie had offered to get him, but he ended up paying for both – as he had offered – and sorting through his enormous, but smaller pile of paperwork. The two officers Charlie had been with the previous night walked in to the detectives’ room and up to Charlie’s desk.
“May I help you, fellas?” Charlie asked – not once looking up from his work; Katie looked up.
“Yeah, you can; there’s been a murder and you were apparently last seen with the victim last night before he was murdered.” Robinson said, leering at Charlie.
“I don’t remember going out last night, I’m not much of a drinker; what’s the guy’s name?” Charlie asked as he continued with his work.
“And we should have been informed of this if there was such a thing.” Katie began, but Taylor cut her off; she mumbled under her breath, “Well, how rude.”
“Tyler Roberts,” Taylor replied standing over Charlie, who still continued with his work as did Katie; Taylor slammed his hands on Charlie’s desk, grabbing Charlie’s and Katie’s (who had in her right mind to slap Taylor due to his temperament and the fact he, along with his partner, were distracting Charlie and herself from getting work done) attention, as Taylor went quite close to Charlie’s face
“You gonna kiss me, Taylor?” Charlie smirked, getting a slight giggle out of Katie; Taylor backed off a little.
Still quite close though, Taylor continued, “Are you sure you didn’t go out because I’m pretty damn sure I saw a guy just like you last night, coming out of where the body was found?”
“I told; I didn’t go out last night and I don’t drink, so I would’ve remembered if I did, but I didn’t.” Charlie replied after he took a long sip of hot chocolate, “Besides I’ve only met the guy once, when there was a murder at the hotel – two years ago – that I was investigating.”
The two officers just grabbed Charlie’s wrists with a tight grip and literally drag him to their car. There was a young, blonde male sitting in the passenger’s seat.
“Trainee, fellas?” Charlie looked back at them, before they could shove him in to the back seat of the car, where he was joined by Robinson.
“So, you’re the famous detective Charlie Barker? It’s certainly a pleasure to meet you.” The young trainee smiled, shaking hands with Charlie before turning back to face the front.
“Thanks, kid,” Charlie smiled back, but before he could say anything else, Robinson elbowed Charlie in the ribs, knocking the wind out of him
“Kid, you have to go into the station; we have…business to take care of with Barker.” Robinson commanded as Oliver Horan, the trainee, got out of the car with no questions to ask; the officers took Charlie back to Vanessa, once they knew Oliver was inside the police station.
