The next day, Katie and Charlie had pulled their boss aside, so they could have a quick talk with him; their boss's instant reaction to seeing Charlie at work was, "Charlie, are you alright; shouldn't you be at home, resting?"

"Ah, about that..." Katie began, looking over at Charlie; Charlie smiled and shook his head to indicate that he'd carry on.

"Well, I was wondering if you could maybe get an interview with Vanessa for me; I want to ask her a couple of questions that I've had on my mind for the last week or so." Charlie explained, often looking at the ground or at Katie, nervously - knowing their boss wouldn't allow his request.

"Normally I wouldn't allow things like this," James, the boss, began; he sighed and continued, "But, because it's you two, I'll allow it just this once; I'll give the boys a call over at her block, to let them know you two are on your way."

"Thanks boss; I could just hug ya," Charlie grinned as he went to hug James

"Don't bother," James chuckled, gently - because of Charlie's side -  shoving Charlie away; Katie and Charlie went on their way, to Vanessa's cell block - which wasn't a long walk.

Katie asked the police officers over on Vanessa's cell block if they could lend out an interrogation room, so they could have a much more private interview - not even that - with Vanessa. One of the two officers, that had been assigned to Vanessa (one female and the other male - the other was already in the room), led Katie and Charlie to the interrogation room, where Vanessa was already sat waiting.

"Officers, could you wait outside the room?" Katie asked the two officers, who did so after hesitating for a couple of seconds, as they nodded and walked out.

"So, Charlie, what's so importantly private that you had to shove the two police officers out the door?" Vanessa asked as she leaned her elbows on the desk in front of her; fitting her head perfectly into her cupped hands.

"Charlie wants to ask you a couple of questions," Katie stepped in as she and Charlie sat in front of Vanessa.

"Well, go on Charlie; ask away." Vanessa smiled

"Vanessa, if you hate me so much, why didn't you just kill me in the first place?" Charlie asked

"I never said I hated you, Charlie; in fact, it's quite the opposite - I love you. Although, I have to admit I did want to kill Katie, but what I realise now is you two are perfect for each other and that I have to fine someone else, no matter how much it hurts to do so." Vanessa explained, leaving Charlie and Katie to blush.

"Then what did Rupert mean when he said, 'we were gonna do it anyway'?" Katie asked; she and Charlie were still blushing from Vanessa's comment about them.

"I don't know; he got into his head that we were gonna kill Charlie." Vanessa turned to Katie; she shrugged with an answer, "But, I promise you, we never were; his rage must have gotten so bad, he lost it."

"One last question, from me anyway; I probably already know the answer to it, but I'll ask anyway. Why didn't you just let me die when Rupert stabbed me; you didn't have to do what Katie asked you and call the ambulance, but you did, why?" Charlie asked, cocking his eyebrow.

"Again, we never intended on murdering you or letting you get hurt; I brought you into my mess, I had to get you out some how." Vanessa replied

"That's all we wanted to know," Charlie told her, "Thank you, Vanessa."

"Officers, you can come back in now," Katie peeked her head out the door to the two officers - who came in and took Vanessa in hand cuffs; Charlie got up to leave.

Katie hesitated going out the room before the officers; Katie asked before the officers walked out of the interrogation room with Vanessa, "Wait; Vanessa, how did you know that thing would work?"

"I didn't; I just thought we should have given it a try, because of how quick Charlie had woken up before that." Vanessa replied as she and  the two officers passed Katie and Charlie; the officers took Vanessa away, back to her cell.

Katie thanked the officers and Vanessa for their time - Charlie did the same as they passed him at the double exit doors -before they were gone; as Katie and Charlie made their way to Katie's car - Charlie still wasn't allowed to drive - to take Charlie home, they were both silenced by Vanessa's answers. When they had gotten into the car, Charlie seemed to be staring into space.

Katie looked over at Charlie, suggesting to herself, 'Maybe he's just thinking,'

Katie started the car and off they went, to Charlie's apartment. Because the silence was so irritating, Katie thought she'd interrupt it.

"Charlie, are you okay?" Katie asked, stopping at the traffic lights as they turned red; she turned to face him.

"Not exactly," Charlie rubbed the back of his neck with the palm of his hand, "I feel guilty that I killed those two guys and almost you. That I'm alive, while they're not - because of me."

"Charlie, it wasn't your fault; Vanessa did something to you to make you do it. It's not like you wanted to." Katie tried to reassure him.

"Yeah, but she tried to get me to kill you; I have a feeling if she urged me enough, I would have done it. What if she had done exactly that? I couldn't live with myself knowing I did that to you." Charlie told her with a slight panic tone to his voice; Katie cut him off with a kiss before he could go any further.

For almost three minutes, they shared a passionate kiss - not noticing the lights went on green and people honking their horns for Katie to move her car -. No, Katie and Charlie weren't exactly bothered about that, because they had each other. The cars went around them and as they parted, they soon noticed the green lights; Katie began driving again.

"How about we take Bolt and Sasha out tomorrow, together?" Katie asked with a grin - referring to Charlie's Husky dog and her own German shepherd dog; both of them were blushing furiously, "To help with your side?"

"You've got work?" Charlie began, with a smile.

"Nope, I booked it off to take care of my partner." Katie replied; both of them still smiling.

"I'd love to," Charlie grinned widely.

"There's that cheeky grin, I know." Katie smirked as she pulled up in front of Charlie's apartment block; Charlie leaned over and kissed Katie once more.

****** Author's note: I tried to make this one a lot longer than it was planned to be, to make up for the really short chapters, but I think I failed; I think the ending sort of failed too, sorry :) Please let me know what you think; I'm thinking of writing a sequel of some sort for it, what do you think? :) Thank you for reading, commenting or/ and voting - it means a lot :) xxx Linzi *************
