My French lesson ended and I went out into the school grounds. The sun was shining brightly and everyone was outside trying to catch the sun rays. The sun brought laughter and groups of people together having fun. The sun made me forget all the bad happenings of yesterday and made me feel confident about today.
I saw Amelia walking towards me and I was happy to see her. 'Give me a high-five!' said Amelia excitedly. Amelia was the only girl who made an effort to be friends with me and I couldn't ignore her friendliness. 'Miss Clifton you are officially my netball partner for life!' said Amelia grinning. 'Ha ha yes Amelia, we do play well together,' I said in full agreement.
'Miss Clifton, if it wasn't for us, Team B would have lost. It's that simple,' said Amelia very straightforwardly. 'You're absolutely right and I'm glad I found a great sports partner to win these matches with. Let's hope we keep ending up on the same team,' I said very happily. 'Ha ha, yes I'm praying we will,' said Amelia.
'So how is your time at Lowlands going, are you enjoying it?' asked Amelia. 'Sort of. It's been quite a roller coaster ride. This is my first time at a mixed school so I've had to adjust to quite a lot,' I said. 'Oh so you were at a girls school before?' Amelia asked. 'Yeah just outside of London in Surrey, Albany Girls. It was much smaller and completely different to Lowlands,' I said.
'Wow it must've been so different. Why did you move?' asked Amelia. 'Oh my father had to move for his job and we moved house too. Moving house also meant moving school, so here I am,' I said. 'Wow that's great Olivia and I feel blessed to have met you,' said Amelia. 'So hopefully your time here and observations have been good so far and it will only get better.'
I wished I could agree with Amelia's remark but obviously a lot of strange things had happened to me including my observations on the consistent bullying going on.
'Well actually Amelia, I wanted to talk to you about something,' I said sounding nervous. 'Sure what's up?' she asked. 'Well just before netball practise yesterday, I was walking to the gym and I saw Shannon Doherty, the girl with short dark hair. She was outside the gym with that blonde curly haired girl who told us we're 'dead meat' and they were practically bullying this first year student,' I said looking shocked.
'Ah yes, Miss Shannon Doherty. She is known to be the worst bully in the school and the blonde curly haired girl is Courtney Smith. Courtney is another friend of Shannon and Nicole's,' explained Amelia. 'I can't believe this kind of bullying goes on so regularly and she doesn't get into trouble,' I said looking shocked.
'Well it's been going on for a long time and Shannon has got into trouble for it before but there's never been enough evidence to show that she's threatening or bullying anyone,' said Amelia.
'It's so sad that she gets away with that sort of behaviour and no one does anything,' I said looking mortified. 'People don't want to intervene or get involved. It's quite sad. There's nothing much you can do about it,' Amelia said. 'I keep seeing someone getting bullied every other day and I feel bad for the victim,' I said.
'There's really nothing much you can do about it. Shannon will probably be bullying a first year student on Friday after school. It happens every week,' said Amelia. I couldn't believe what Amelia was saying. Could Shannon really get away with this kind of behaviour for so long? 'Anyway Olivia, please don't worry about this too much. Putting that aside, I wanted to introduce you to some of my friends,' said Amelia looking proud.
We walked over to a group of three girls. 'Olivia I'd like you to meet Grace, Priyanka and Lucy. These girls are my besties and I really would like you guys to meet,' said Amelia excitedly. At that point I was so grateful to have a friend like Amelia and I knew she was someone I could rely and trust. Grace, Priyanka and Lucy were standing in a straight line like a girl group all looking very polite and friendly.
