"I'm gonna have a barbecue tomorrow, was wondering if you'd come?" His hands gripped the phone at the nerves that shot through his body. Never had he been so nervous to ask a girl over. Never had he wanted something so badly. She wasn't just another girl, but wasn't the only girl either. Certain reminders of his previous long term relationship would come up when he was with Grier. Good reminders, downright joyful, loving reminders that made him happy he found this thing called "love" again.
"Of course I'll come." Looking over at him, her eyes bright and loving. She flipped through the pages of the magazine, throwing it to the floor as she leaned over and kissed his cheek. Dropping his phone, pulling her into him, tight as ever. She laughed lightly, her hand running along his shoulders. Rubbing, soothing him. She touched him gently, a loving touch. Never urgent, never lustful. She wasn't like that and could never be "that" girl.
She wanted everything any other girl wanted from a boy, a man. But, what she needed was rather simple, someone to talk to, listen to. She would work for it as long as they could deal.
