Dear Carmenn,

Things are great back home. I have started art classes, and gotten really into it. Maybe I’m the next Picasso, or Dali?

I haven’t missed a second of the Olympics. They haven’t mentioned any figure skating yet, but trust me I won’t miss you for the world.

It sounds fun in the Olympic village. When you come home you must show me pictures, maybe even some videos.

I miss you so much. <3

P.S. Good luck tomorrow! J

Kasey’s email made me smile. I haven’t heard from her in forever, and it was nice to see her so proud.

“Knock, knock” Coach said softly as she entered my dorm.

“Yup,” you have exactly twenty six hours until your Olympic debut.”

Twenty six hours! Oh my gosh!

~

“Where is that grace, and beauty?!” Coach shouted across the rink as I preformed my long program. “You can’t just be a power machine! It won’t win you gold!”

I sighed heavily.

How could I possible beat some of the greatest skaters in the world, TOMORROW! I now had twenty four hours. Coach and I have been practicing for two straight hours. I have been nothing but a sloppy mess.

“Again,” Coach shouted, as I heavily stepped out of my ending position for long program.

Coach replayed my music before I could really catch my breath.

The second my music started I erased my mind of everything. My mind was a blank space.

Then my music ended, and my thoughts came back.

“That is the performance of a gold medalist,” Coach said smiling.

I skated over to her panting.

“Okay, practice is over. Get some sleep, tomorrow you become an official Olympian.” Coach remarked.

~

I trudged back to my dorm in the misty air.

I had to chances for gold. Tomorrow with my short program, and the day after with my long program.

Is the Olympic committee trying to torture us by putting our two chances, two days in a row? That has never happened at previous Olympics.

I arrived at my room to find Rowan already asleep, which surprised me because it was only three o’clock. I decided to crash also, so slipped into an old sweatshirt, and yoga pants.

I lay down, staring at the ceiling blankly for a few minutes. Then sleep found me and I closed my eyes.
