I remembered my history teacher saying something about moving to Michigan, but I thought I was just imagining since I never pay attention in that class. Sure enough, Monday morning I walked in to see a new tall, muscular, blonde, history teacher. She looked nicer than Mrs. Stephenson our old teacher, but like Nana always says “you can’t judge a book by its cover,” so I decided to not make any assumptions yet.

I dragged my feet over to my seat towards the back of the class, alone, and I sat down when the new teacher walked up to me.

“Carmenn Di Giovanninni? Right?” she asked glancing down at me with the shiniest smile I have ever seen.

She pronounced my last name right, but how does she know me? Carmenn thought looking up at that bright smile. “Um, yes. But-“

“Champion Regional figure skater?”

“Yes, how did you know? And how do you know me?” Carmenn said looking her new teacher in the eye for a long time, and then it came together. “Lacey Evans?! Regional Champion figure skater?!”

“Yes, exactly. I know you because I’m sort of a fan, and I watch all of your performances, as a matter of fact I skated at Northern Boston Skating Academy too. I go to almost all of your competitions, let me just say, you are the most powerful figure skater I have ever seen.”

My new history teacher is a fan! Carmenn thought excitedly. “Well, it’s an honor to meet you, and I can’t believe you’re a fan! Oh, and thanks so much for the compliment it means a lot.”

“No problem,” Mrs. Evans said giving me one of those big shiny smiles of hers.”Well I must go teach my class, an honor to meet you too.”

When the bell rang I didn’t want to leave history, it was so much fun now with a happy, smiley, figure skating teacher. The lesson that they had that period was so interesting too! Ancient Greece was actually more than just ruins, it was a whole civilization with its own beliefs. Obviously, Carmenn thought, why didn’t I know that?

The first thing I did when I entered language arts was run over to Prim and tell her the big news, about Mrs. Evans, regional champion figure skater!

“PRIM! PRIM! PRIM! HAVE YOU BEEN TO HISTORY YET? Of course you haven’t, your first period is science.” I shouted excitedly speed-walking into the room.

“What’s so exciting about history? I thought you hated that class?”

“Apparently not anymore. It’s my new favorite class.”

“Who are you and what have you done with history-hating Carmenn Di Giovanninni?” Prim said between laughter.

I rolled my eyes and laughed a little to. “Well, it’s because there’s a new teacher.”

“WHAT?! Mrs. Stephenson finally left? YUS!”

“I know right?! Anyway the new teacher is…Lacey Evans! Regional Champion figure skater!”

“WOW! OH MY GOSH WERE YOU LIKE SUPER EXCITED? DID YOU ASK FOR HER AUTOGRAPH?”

“ Yes and no. But that’s the thing, she is a fan of ME!”

“THAT IS SO COOL!”

I smiled at Prim’s pale freckly face, I love it how she gets me. Than the bell rang and we all sat down and began boring Language Arts. Only if all of my teachers were former figure skaters, maybe I would actually enjoy school.

“So your saying that your new history teacher is Lacey Evans regional Champion figure skater?” my mom asked at diner after I told her the big news.

“Get this. She is a fan of me?” I replied.

“What? Wow! That’s pretty cool.”

“It’s not just cool, it’s AWESOME! I think I might start to like school more now!” I said getting out of my seat and twirling around. “And she is a fan,” I whispered to myself.
