Sometimes you don't think of the consequences of your actions. Sometimes you have to the stupid things to save the day. But you know it's not the only answer. You aren't always meant to be the hero. You just have to keep telling yourself things happen for a reason, and you'll get out of it soon.
But when you're Katerina Belikov, you feel like you have something to prove. The daughter of the two best guardians to have ever walked the Earth, you have to create your own story, find a way out of the shadow. It's hard, it really is.
My life story reminds me a lot about a show that we use to watch as kids. The main character is the daughter of the evil queen. Pretty much when she graduates high school, she gets put into her mother's story, following the story of Snow White. Throughout the show she realizes that's not what she wants, and tries to find a way out of it, a way to break free. It's a deep show for kids if you ask me, but I loved it.
As a kid that never occurred to me I would be following the footsteps of my parents. I went to the school my mom went too, I met my boyfriend where my parents met, I was training to protect my best friend, I'm shadow kissed and linked to one of the most important royals, I ran away from school, and oh yeah how can I forget... I'm a strigoi, just like my dad.
I've been in a cell for who knows how long. I haven't been keeping count. I really don't talk to anyone. I have a neighbor who spends her time going on and on about how dhampirs are the superior species, ectrea, ectrea. I see my parents at least, what feels like once every few months, for a feeding. And, I get poked and prodded with needles, by the spirit users as I am now a science experiment.
This was my parents worst fear, the world finding out my actual genealogy. I become more and more of a freak everyday. First, I'm a daughter of a former strigoi, and then I find out that my mother is well my actual mother. If I were a normal person, this news wouldn't be such a shock, but I'm not normal. For my entire life, I always thought my mom was a random moroi my parents paid to carry me. But from what I know, it's still a secret, and I'm not the only one.
Declan Ivanskov, the only person who might have an idea what I'm going through. He was the first. The first dhampir and dhampir kid. He found out about his true parentage not that long ago too. From what I heard, he too has been experimented on. And he's been getting to know his dad.
I've seen Asher, about three times. We communicate through the bond, but recently I've asked him not to come down. When he's near me, it's like my strigoi side turns off. And when it does I start to feel, and that's the last thing I want to do.
You don't really hear about strigoi coming back, as it's a new thing, and it's happened like five times. Two are dead, and one was recently restored. The other two, we'll they weren't compelled, at least of what they shared. What no one tells you, once you become strigoi, your memories come back, like being dead brings them back. When I'm away from Asher, I don't feel a thing, but the moment he comes close, everything comes rushing back, everything.
I didn't really know for sure what happened, but it all came to light once I got turned. Asher knows this. They were supposed to turn me back weeks ago, but they've been pushing it back, knowing when I'm back to normal, my blackouts could be triggered and be worse than before, and I'm going to feel everything.
The only thing Asher keeps me updated with is what's going on around court, and the snips our group tells him about what's going on at the academy. From what I heard, they're all coming soon, Roman has been adjusting to moroi life perfectly, and well Steve and Maddie have been inseparable. Roman hasn't wanted to see me. My best guess is that he feels bad about what the strigoi did to me.
And everything else I find out from Lily Tanner. She leaves her cell, for long periods of time throughout the day. She is in the middle of her hearingl, which determines if you'll have an actual trial. Most of the time, if you get to the point where they give you a hearing, you're gonna go to trial. Hers has been going on for a number of days, lawyers arguing back and forth, from what she tells me it's a huge mess. She just sits there for hours, wanting to get this over with.
