She just left. She didn't say anything. She dropped the book and ran out. She disappeared. He found it.

I decided not to go after her, I didn't want to push it. She didn't tell me for a reason and I have to respect that. I stayed up here in the attic for an hour or so, waiting to see if she would come back.

Instead, Mark and Alexei came up. They just stared at me.

"She found it." I told them.

"It's real?" Alexei looked at me in disbelief.

I picked up the book from the floor.

Alexei grabbed it, "I have to talk to my mom, tell her Kat needs to testify tomorrow."

"She can't, she's not ready. She isn't supposed to be on the stand for another week."

He just tapped the book, "This... this changes everything." Alexei ran out.

Does it? We don't even know what "it" is. What if she ends up pulling herself in deeper, and ends up being found guilty before she even gets her own trial.

"It's been the plan since they found out about the research. They find it and it all or nothing." Mark put his hand on my shoulder, "I tried telling her, but she won't listen."

"She knows what she's doing, she doesn't want to go back into that cell."

Kat would much rather be dead, than locked up again. I don't blame her.

"How's Maddie?" Mark changed the subject as I got lost in my own thoughts.

    "What happened?"

    "Where have you been?"

I left court after the baby was born. I needed to clear my head. Maddie and Adelaide knew I left and the truth about the baby. I just came back, Declan was working front security and told me about Kat. I came straight to her, not stopping to talk to anyone.

"I had some guardian business outside of court."

"Must have been important, you missed your baby's baby shower."

    The baby.

Mark filled me in on what I've missed these last few days, on our way to Maddie's room in guest housing. I softly knocked on the door. There was no response. I knocked again not hearing anything. I slowly opened the door. The room was almost dark, the only light coming from the bedside lamps, and the TV. Maddie was laying on the bed, eating ice cream.

I sat on the bed., "Hey Mads."

    "Why her?"

    "What?"

"They always choose Katerina Belikov. She had a prince wrapped around her finger but that wasn't enough. You chose her. You had a beautiful super model and a princess, a fucking princess, you're life was going to be easy and you were set. But you chose her, why does everyone want her?"

"Asher doesn't. Maddie, I've seen the way he looks at you. To him, you're the only girl in the world."

"I heard the stories about his relationship with Kat. Everyone says they're never seen him look at a girl the way he looks at Kat. And he was with Kenna for like two years."

I heard the stories too. I lived them.

She sat up when I didn't say anything, "He left me for her. I gave him a choice and he chose her."

    "He had no other choice."

    "Yes he did."

"He was scared she was going to hurt herself."
