ONE WEEK LATER, NAWAL WAS GETTING READY to go to the talent show. She had specifically ordered her kids to dress up in nice clothings, which made the boys complain about not understanding anything.
"I still don't get it. Where on earth is Finn and why aren't you forcing him to dress up ?" Adam asked, tying his shirt buttons while looking at himself in the mirror.
"And why are you so interested in that talent show anyway ? It's just a bunch of dumb kids trying to seem talented." Rajwan commented as he shot his mother a suspicious look. Luna rolled her eyes, zipping up her sister's black, short-sleeved dress. Maya smiled and gave her a peck on her cheek.
"Can you just shut up and wear your damn clothes ?! We're going to be late."
After a long while of talking and dressing up, the family was in the minivan. Nawal took a deep breath as she started the engine, then began to drive.
"Yeah. Tonight is going to be great." She assured herself.
"Mum, I think I forgot my water bottle."
"I think I forgot my extra shirt."
"I feel like I'm forgetting my lip balm."
She gave a fake, fed-up smile to the mirror. "Yup. Tonight's going to be awesome."

"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome onto the stage Finn Wolfhard." The principal announced cheerfully, but went quiet as everyone booed and laughed. The mother glanced around the hall in pure offence, not understanding why they weren't giving him a chance. The children glanced at their mother in shock, slightly offended that she didn't tell them beforehand.
"Mum..!"
"Shut up, not like you were going to support him anyway."
Before they could protest, they saw Finn coming up from behind the curtains, holding his guitar tightly between his fingers.
He took a deep breath, then glanced at Nawal, who gave him a thumbs-up. He smiled, then stepped towards the microphone.
Then began to sing.
If you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea, I'll sail the world, to find you.
Nawal smiled the lyrics, her eyes sparkling. Everyone else kept quiet, and listened to Finn singing and playing his guitar.
If you ever find yourself lost in the dark and you can't see, I'll be the light to guide you.
We find out what we're made off, when we are called to help our friends in need.
The line brought tears to his eyes.
You can count on me, like one, two, three, I'll be there.
And I know when I need it, I cam count on you, like four, three, two. You'll be there.
Cause that's what friends are supposed to do, oh yeah.
Finn looked up at the audience, to see a familiar face he wanted to see earlier.
Mal's.
The girl was smiling at him and clapping warmly.
That made his heart beat fast as a smile found its way to his handsome face.
She was there.
But he was the only one who could see her.
However, it didn't matter to him. Her appearance was giving him confidence.
He felt like he could trust her at that moment.
He desperately wanted to talk to her after the show was over. He felt a tug at his heart as she waved at him. He gave her a smile, muttering the words 'I love you' as he was playing the chorus.
Little did he knew that his horror was coming to an end.
