"So," he glanced up as he picked up his phone, "Where are you assigned?"

"Jackson."

He raised his eyebrows in shock as he slammed the phone back down. Brows furrowed in anger, he clenched his jaw in an attempt to maintain his composure, "He sent you to Jackson? I won't even send my people to Jackson, it's too dangerous over there!"

Sarah arched an eyebrow while narrowing her eyes. What was he getting at? He knows she can take care of herself. "Scott, please, I just want to solve this case and go home." There was no need for her to be there any longer than she had to be, not anymore.

He flipped through a small notepad on his desk, dialed a number, and flipped the pad closed.

"Chief Mathews here...yes, I have an agent here, Sarah Bennet, she's from our East division. She has been sent here to assist Jackson in their current case... Yes. Yes, I vouche for her. A murder case? Serial killer?" his eyes, filled with worry, shot up to Sarah's, "Alright, she'll be by shortly. Not a problem, take care, Carter."

Ending the call, he slid his phone in his suit jacket and grabbed his keys off of the desk. Looking at Sarah he smiled, "Shall we?" he gestured towards the door.

"We? Scott, I just needed clearance to work on the case."

"Well, now you've got it." He pulled the office door open and stepped aside allowing her to pass by him.

"I don't need you babysitting me." She argued.

"It's not babysitting if I'm working the case alongside of you." He smirked.

Knowing he was pulling his overprotective bull shit on her again, she wasn't going to let up, "You've got your own work here to do. You're not my partner anymore, Scott, I am capable of working cases on my own."

"Yes, well, you don't have to while you're here," he smiled, "It'll be like old times." But Sarah didn't want it to be like old times. Old times had her falling for him and knowing she still had those feelings, she needed to stay away now that she's found out he's involved with someone.

The two of them bickered as they walked through the large office filled with desks and agents sitting at them. Each of the agents followed them with their eyes as they walked by, listening to the arguing.

"There are officers in Jackson that will be working alongside of me just fine. Stay here and run your division, Scott."

Scott stopped walking causing her to nearly run into him, the closeness made her breath hitch, "I don't want you out there."

She looked up at him, not allowing his tall stature intimidate her, "I don't care what you want." she had to get away from him, put distance between them.

"You haven't changed a bit, I see."

Sarah started to notice all eyes on them. A few agents were huddled at their neighbor's desk whispering to one another. Scott seemed to notice at the same time, he quickly cleared his throat and looked at Sarah, "Bennet, Agent White will accompany you to your vehicle." he was back to his professional self.

Sarah's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Who?"

"Me, ma'am."

Sarah turned to see Mark standing next to them, he smiled shyly, clasped his hands behind his back, and waited for Scott's orders.

"That won't be necessary, I Ubered here."

"Then Agent White will drive you," his attention turned to Mark, "Make sure she makes it to Jackson. Check in once she's there."
