Me and my friends are just hanging out. Suddenly AG starts to speak. "Do ever think... Rump and Alva could have won the war? Alva could have killed Jax and Anna could have decided not to come to the good side and then the curse would work. We wouldn't even exist then. Do you ever think of that?" she asks. I shrug. "Well no because they didn't. That's the important thing. We won the war," I say. Maxine nods. "But if Alva succeeded in hitting Jax with her magic... he'd be dead. A world without Jax..." she trails off. "I honestly can't even imagine that any more. I just... can't," I admit. Jax smirks at me. "So you do care," he says in triumph. I roll my eyes. "I do not care and I was not worried. It's just a strange thought," I say, glaring at him. "Uh huh. You did say you cared because I had your brothers so in a way you admitted you cared," Jax says. "That's not what I meant," I mutter. I'm silent for a moment. "Wait, I never did thank you for that did I?" I ask. "No you didn't," Jocelyn says. Ok now I feel guilty. Jax risked his life when he was mortally wounded and half dead for my brothers? And I didn't even thank him? "Thank you," I say. Thank you doesn't even begin to describe how grateful I mean to him for doing that. "No problem thief," he says with a smile. Wait what? "What do you mean no problem? I mean you literally risked your life for my brothers," I say. "But it was really nothing," Jax says. "But you were mortally wounded and half dead! How is that nothing? Oh my goblins I should probably owe you something, I owe you so much what can I-" Jax puts his hand on my shoulder. "Really. You owe me nothing thief. I chose to save your brothers. I couldn't just watch them get hurt," he says. I still can't put my gratitude into words. "Thank you," I say again when I can't think of anything to express it. Jax opens his mouth. "And don't say it was nothing, it most definitely was not nothing, you almost died for my brothers and that's heroic and honorable so don't you dare say it was nothing," I warn him. Jax closes his mouth then opens it again. "You're welcome," he says. I beam. Jax grins. "But Gilly, you did call me heroic. And honorable. And you just pointed out I was mortally wounded. So you do care about me and you do like me," he says. "Did you have a doubt she didn't?" Ollie asks. I glare at both of them. "Ollie, shut up," I say. I turn to Jax. "You're an absolute idiot. A brave idiot, but still an idiot," I say. Jax laughs. "You still called me brave," he reminds me. I roll my eyes then turn to stare at the ground. I smile a little without him seeing. You're annoying Jax. But still. You saved my brothers. Thank you. I'm more grateful than I can say in words. Thank you so much.
