Operation Saber

Thalia shifted uncomfortably as sweat dripped down her back, the tan fatigues she was wearing turning dark from the moisture. She wiped her forehead with the back of her hand before refocusing her attention back on watching the compound that sat below, through the pair of binoculars she held in her hand.

"The place looked a lot smaller on the satellite photos" Thalia commented, trying to fight off the persistent boredom, as she watched a group of armed guards setting up a series of concrete barriers on both ends of the lonely highway, that ran alongside the facility, using a forklift

"A lot more guards than we were expecting as well" agreed Hannah from her prone position next to Thalia as she peered through the scope of her rifle "I count about 25 or so armed guards, mostly carrying M4s and Ak47s, plus maybe another dozen or so people that I assume are the researchers"

The pair continued to observe the compound silently until Hannah noticed something, near the center of the compound sat a long white metal Quonset hut. Like all the other buildings in the compound it looked old and run down, but what caught Hannah eye was that at both ends of the building stood a pair of guards guarding each door, and another group of guards had just arrived in a large flatbed truck and had started to unload large sections of chain link fence, setting it up to surround the building.

"You seeing this? That metal structure on the west half of the compound, there putting a fence around it" Hannah told Thalia who in turn shifted her focus to watch the building

"Why would they all of a sudden be putting up a fence around that part of the compound" Thalia muttered, almost to herself, as she watched the group setting up the section of fence, that appeared to be well over 8' tall "I haven't seen anyone go in or out of that building the whole time we have been up here" Thali added as she looked over at Hannah who was staring down her rifle scope at something

"Hey, do you have that photo of that scientist Percy was talking about.....Dr. Turner" Hannah asked as she tried to remember the name

"Uh, yeah...hold on," Thalia said a little confused as she reached into her pocket and pulled out the piece of paper that had old photos of some of the institute's members. Thalia flipped through the packet until she found the one she needed and laid it in the dirt next to Hannan "here you go"

Hannah glanced at the photo then back through her rifle scope "Yea that looks like her alright. Check out the woman in the grey shirt leading that group that is walking from the main building towards the hut"

Thalia looked where Hannah had told her to and found the group of people she was talking about, focusing on the woman Hannah had pointed out. The woman was tall with blond hair and as she turned to look at the group behind her Thalia got a good look at her face and snapped a photo, using one of the binocular's advanced features "I think your right" Thalia commented as the group reached the hut which was now almost surrounded by the chain-link fence.

"Well whatever the hell she found is probably in that building and they seem very determined to keep it safe, whatever it is," Hannah said as she picked up her rifle and started to shuffle backward over the crest of the hill "Come on, it's almost sunset, let's report back and get prepped for the raid"

The pair hiked the mile or so back to where the rest of the agents had set up their base camp earlier in the day. When they reached the camp most of the hunters and agents were taking cover under trees and camouflage netting, trying to keep out of the heat. As the pair approached Gillian and Artemis saw them and walked over to greet them.

"What do you have to report?" Gillian asked as she handed the pair each a fresh bottle of water which they happily drank from

"Well, there is defiantly something going on down there," Hannah said as she pulled out a large printout of the satellite photo of the compound "We saw them surrounding this grey Quonset hut with a large chain link fence and a pair of guards at each end guarding the doors. We also saw who we are pretty sure is Dr.Turner leading a group of people into that hut. There are also about 4 or 5 times the number of guards we were expecting, we counted about 25 or so armed guards" Hannah continued as she looked at Thalia who nodded in agreement
