Chapter 34:
A few weeks later
"Look... There's mama..." Kei smiled as Mizuki's car pulled up the driveway, causing Hana to squeal with delight.
"Car!" Hana beamed, pointing to the black car, "Mama!"
"That's right, she's in the car..." He chuckled.
Mizuki parked and excitedly slammed the car door open. Without even shutting it, she sprinted to her husband and daughter, eager to feel their loving embrace. It had been almost two months since she last saw them in person, and all that mattered to her was that she was now reunited with her family.
"Hi!" She exclaimed as she threw her arms around them, "I missed you both so much!"
"Mama!" Hana snuggled against her as Mizuki peppered her cheeks with soft kisses.
"Did you miss mama, my little moonflower?" She laughed warmly, "Because I missed you!"
Hana nodded eagerly, making her heart flutter with affection.
"We missed you, princess." Kei smiled, planting a tender kiss on her forehead.
"I missed you, baby..." Mizuki tip-toed up and brushed her lips against his, "So damn much."
"Dada, cry." Hana giggled.
"Dada cried?" Mizuki smirked, staring up at her husband, "He missed me that much?"
"Not true..." Kei muttered, his face and ears reddening slightly.
Mizuki laughed as she hugged them once again, feeling her body lighten with exhilaration. Volleyball season was over for a few months, and her team placed second (out of 30 different teams) overall in Japan. Even though she was upset that they lost, being with her family eased her sadness.
"I brought souvenirs!" She grinned as she took Hana from Kei, "They're in the car!"
"What is it?" He asked.
The three sauntered over to the car, opening the passenger door which revealed several bags secured on the seat.
"I picked us up some dinner, and most importantly, I brought strawberry shortcake for you, Kei!" She beamed, "And for Hana, I got her a cute, green sweater and three new toys!"
"Toy!" Hana repeated.
"You're the best, princess," Kei chuckled, caressing her back affectionately, "Seriously."
"I know." Mizuki declared nonchalantly.
Kei took his wife's bags, belongings, and souvenirs, carrying them inside the house as Mizuki snuggled and conversed with Hana. She could repeat and say basic words now, and her comprehension was improving every single day.
All three of them ate dinner, cherishing their precious moments together as a family. Hana didn't once leave her mother's arms - she clung to her mother like a baby kangaroo, and Mizuki loved every second of it. Even during bath time, Hana held onto her mother's hand, showcasing just how much she missed her.
"Time to sleep, my moonflower..." Mizuki whispered, gently swaying Hana back and forth in front of her crib, "Sleepytime..."
"No..." Hana mumbled, her eyes fluttering shut slowly, "No, mama..."
"Mama's here... I'm not going anywhere..." She smiled as she watched her daughter try to stay awake. Meanwhile, Kei peeked from the door, and his heart twinged with affection.
