Chapter 4:
"So..." Kei exhaled, looking up to meet his wife's puzzled gaze.
"I guess... I'm not pregnant after all?" Mizuki murmured slowly.
"The test might be wrong though." He added.
"We can confirm it when I get my test results back from the doctor tomorrow." She sighed, feeling a wave of relief crash over her.
"Right."
Kei and Mizuki stared at one another, dumbfounded. They should be ecstatic at the fact that she wasn't pregnant.
"Would it be wrong to say that I'm a little disappointed?" Mizuki mumbled, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"No," He murmured, wrapping his arms around her affectionately, "I'm a little disappointed too."
Kei was somewhat relieved but a part of him was discouraged to learn that his wife wasn't pregnant. They stayed in each other's embrace until Kei broke the silence.
"Are you feeling better?" He asked softly.
"Mhm," She smiled, "Especially now that you're here."
He let out a small laugh as he kissed her forehead gently. The two spent the night catching up, cuddling, and watching movies until they fell asleep.
Kei didn't get a chance to call his brother that night.
The next morning, the doctor called Mizuki and he confirmed that she was not pregnant. He added that her symptoms were due to exhaustion and that she was excused from training for at least 3 days. That gave Kei and Mizuki three days to relax and spend some time together until he had to go back to Miyagi. For their first day off, they decided to hang out with Akaashi, who had a free day off, at his and Bokuto's home.
"This is Kaito," Akaashi smiled proudly at his twin boys, "And this is Kenji."
Kaito had fluffy, black hair and a small, button nose that enhanced his navy eyes. His twin Kenji, on the other hand, had short, dark hair with a toothy grin, puffy cheeks, and light blue eyes.
"They're adorable, Akaashi-san!" Mizuki grinned, lightly squeezing Kenji's cheeks.
"Thanks," He laughed, "I know Kou wanted to hang out with you guys but he's busy preparing for the Olympics too."
"Yeah, I've seen him around the arena!" She added, gently picking up Kenji in her arms.
"What made you decide to adopt twins, Akaashi-san?" Kei asked, watching his wife adorably play with one of the twins.
"Well, Kou and I both knew that we wanted kids in the future, and we definitely weren't planning on adopting so early but..." Akaashi explained, picking up Kaito from the crib, "We were at Kou's sister's house playing with her kids and he had this twinkle in his eye... He was just so happy. I love seeing him like that. It was then that we both knew."
"Knew what?" Kei asked curiously.
"We were ready to have kids." Akaashi kissed Kaito's forehead, earning a giggle from him, "Sounds insane, I know."
"How did you know when you were ready?" Kei asked, wanting to clarify what he meant.
"It's... hard to explain. You kind of just... know." Akaashi laughed bashfully.
"That's a little unhelpful..." Kei muttered as he grimaced.
"Sorry, Tsukishima." He smiled, handing Kaito over so that Kei could bond with his kid.
