Y//N Pov

"Miss Y/L/N! Miss Y/L/N! Look here!"
"Y/N you look stunning!"
"What do you have to say about your new album?"
"Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans?"
"Y/N are the rumours true?!"
"Miss Y/N, what is your secret for such clear skin?"

The voices of the paparazzi fade away as I enter the grand venue, my long gown trailing behind me.

The place is decorated grandly with pretty lights everywhere, making the room look like the night sky. The ceiling shimmers, tiny dots of different sizes glittering brightly. It reminded me of the times when I used to sit out on my balcony, star gazing with my best friend.

My best friend Zayn.

Yes, Zayn and I were childhood friends. His parents wanted him to have a better education, his initial dream was to become an English teacher after all. He moved schools right after he completed his 3rd grade. Although, it wasnt until the 5th grade that I noticed him.

He was very lonely, always looking very dull. But he was quite the mystery to the students in school. He would walk into the school, looking emo as usual. His presence was almost never noticed, he liked to blend in the shadows.

Students would take a crack at befriending him and get to his mind, trying to uncover the secrets this boy held. Luckily, he knew how to handle various social situations the try-hards would force him into.

My own friends attempted to invite him over to our table during lunch, but in vain. It frustrated and upset me, seeing him alone at all times of day. So I decided to approach him in a 'civil manner' and talk. By civil, I mean spill my drink on him and take him out for lunch as an apology.

To this day, I dont know what made him agree to my offer, but I'm glad he did because he was the only friend who I kept in touch with. After graduating high school, I moved to France for my further studies while he continued in London. We agreed to text and call every once in a while, keeping eachother updated on our lives.

He suddenly called me up one day and stated he was trying out for X factor. To say i was shocked by his statement is an understatement. He mentioned his family needed the money so he wanted to give this a shot. Though i couldn't be there during the making of One Direction, I still gave them my utmost support.

By the time I finished my college, I lost interest in my major. I panicked and poured my worries out to Zayn. He suggested that I might as well have a go at entering the music industry, him knowing about my passion for writing and composing music.

I wrote to several labels, sent them an audition video and finally, got into Mercury records. I was quite disappointed I didn't get accepted by Syco labels but i was not disheartened. I worked my way up the social ladder, slowly but surely. It took about 3 years to get this popular, but i wasnt complaining because the process had been worth it.

With Zayn and I both being celebrities, it became harder to hang out like we did as kids. We spoke to our management and discussed the situation. We got the official okay to be seen by the public, mainly because it'd be good publicity for me. Either way, we got to goof around as much as we wanted without having to worry about cowering away from the public eye.

As expected, fans ship us often, and rumours go around all the time. But it has never phased us. In fact, we quite enjoy seeing the edits fans make of us. They are carefully created to make sure the outcome is perfect. As a person who has made a few edits of Zayn in their early One Direction days, I understand the value of the art.

We try to get out a lot more but lately we both have been busy with promotions. We haven't called or texted properly in two months, let alone see eachother so I am quite excited to finally be able to talk to him today.
