*Normal POV*
I dragged myself into work the following day, hoping Aston had read my letter. But even if he had, there was only a tiny chance that he'd listened to me. He wasn't going to be in the office until the afternoon, so I'd be able to test if ti had worked later that day.
It came to my lunch break, so I decided to go out and fill myself up with food, my excuse being preparation for seeing Aston in the afternoon. I knew stuffing my face wouldn't make a difference, I was just being greedy. As I stepped out of the office to head towards the lift, I bumped into someone.
"Oh, sorry" they said immediately.
"No, that was my fault, sorry" I said, turning to face the girl I'd bumped into.
"Chloe, right?" she questioned.
"Yeah, that's me" I replied.
"I'm Kelly, I work in the office too" she smiled warmly, sticking her hand out.
"Nice to meet you" I smiled back, shaking her hand.
"Were you going out for lunch?" she asked.
"Yeah" I said.
"Awesome, you wanna get lunch together then?" she asked me.
"Sure" I smiled.
We ended up getting a sandwich from Subway, and sitting on a bench around the corner from the office to eat it, just chatting,
"So, how long have you been working here?" I asked her.
"Just a couple of years. What made you move here?" she asked, taking another bite of her sandwich.
"Well, when my father passed away last year, he left me a lot of money. I'd left it sitting doing nothing for ages, but I decided to splash out on a big house in London, then realising I'd need a job too, as the remainder of the money wouldn't cover my needs forever.. So I decided to move here" I smiled, proud of myself for making up that little story on the spot.
"Oh, well.. I'm sorry about your loss, with your father" she said.
"No worries. We never got on anyway" I sighed. My father hadn't died last year.. As far as I knew, he was still alive, I just hadn't seen him. He'd left me, my mum and my siblings when I was 8, and he'd left us with nothing whatsoever.
After being left satisfied from lunch, we both headed back into the office. When we walked out of the lift on the correct floor, Aston was leaned against a wall on his phone. He looked up and smiled at Kelly.
"Good afternoon, Aston" she smiled.
"Hi Kelly" he replied. When she'd gone, he looked in my direction.
"Hi" I said sheepishly.
"I need to talk to you" he sighed. Nodding, I walked off down the corridor, with him following me. We headed into an empty meeting room for out 'talk'.
"So.." I started.
"I got your letter" he said, not making eye contact.
"And?" I questioned.
"I think you're right" he said, looking into my eyes. "I think we do need to be civil in this situation. I guess it's important to work in a positive environment." I nodded.
"I've missed you" I half smiled.
"Chloe, don't so this" he sighed, placing his head in his hands.
"Do what?" I asked.
"This! What you're doing right now, okay? I want us to be colleagues, and nothing more. So don't start with this whole 'I miss you' shit. I can't go through it all again" he said sternly.
"Sorry" I mumbled.
"Okay, so.. I'll see you whenever then" he shrugged, before leaving me alone in the room.
I couldn't really concentrate on my work after that, I had to think everything over in my head.. It wasn't until my boss pulled me into his office that I noticed how off I was being.
"Chloe, what's wrong with you today?" he asked.
"Sorry, I'm just not feeling well" I sighed, placing my hand on my head, acting as if I has a headache.
"Well, you finish in 20 minutes.. So do you wanna head home now?" he asked me.
"Oh, please, that would me great, thank you" I half smiled.
Once I got home, I took Shiba on a long walk to clear my head. After we'd been walking for an hour or so, and we were both beginning to get tired, I found a park to sit and rest on a bench. Shiba sat down on the floor in front of me, panting slightly. I reached into my pocket and grabbed my water bottle, glugging some down my throat. As I put it back in my pocket, my phone started ringing. It was Kingsley.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Chloe, hi.. How are things going with the case?" he asked.
"Things are difficult.. Awkward" I sighed.
"Is he acknowledging you?" he asked me.
"Yeah, he is.. At first he was really harsh, but he's softening up a bit. He wants us to be civil, since we're working together" I shrugged, even though he couldn't see me shrugging.
"So no information yet?" he asked.
"Not really, but I think his band mate knows something.. Marvin. He confronted me the other day, and said Aston didn't need this right now. He was acting suspicious" I said.
"Ok.. Well, keep at it, and I'll call you back in a few days" he spoke down the phone.
"Ok, bye" I sighed, hanging up.
I needed to move faster with this, Aston's life was at stake.
