“Tia…Tia”
My eyelids fluttered open to see my brother’s body looming above me, I was grateful for the mass of his body blocking the sunlight that was pouring from the window. I let out a sleepy groan as my vision gradually unblurred and I was fully torn from my land of dreams.
“Tia, there’s someone waiting at the gate for you,” Alex said softly, he had learnt to only speak to me in the morning if it was completely necessary and even then he had to be as quiet and as simple as possible with his words.
I rolled out of bed and threw my duffle coat on over my joggers and tank top. I walk lazily towards the front door and stuffed my feet into a pair of worn out ugg boots before stepping outside into the cool morning breeze. As I walked towards the gates, I saw a familiar figure leaning against the side of a dark red range rover. Matt.
“There’s my gorgeous girl” Matt gushed as he caught sight of me. It was as he said these words that I realised I did in fact resemble a tramp, but I can’t say I cared.
“Matt, what are you doing here?” I replied, my voice cracking a little as my brain continued to wake itself up.
“I figured you owe me from last night.” He confidently replied.
“I…owe you?”
“Yeah, I mean I practically saved your life…”
“Matt I fell on some ice and turned my ankle, you can stop acting the hero!”
“You’re even hotter when you’re arguing!” he winked. Eugh.
It was at this moment that I became fully aware that we were still standing at the front gates, Matt leant up against the side of the car and I huddled on the other side of the barrier. There was a guard either side of us, I recognised them both but I didn’t know them well enough to feel comfortable with them overhearing this conversation!
“So are you going to let me in or just leave me standing out here?” Matt asked impatiently.
“The latter.” I replied, after very little thought.
“So I’ll pick you up at 8 then?”
“What...I-I… MATT!” but it was too late for me to protest, he had already gotten into the car and driven off.
Shit.
